Question for the OP
Can u change the time with the hour hand jumping per hour leaving the minute hand stationary? I dont think fakes can do this.

I was referring to the picture that was blown up and turned side ways. I mean with all that magnification in some of the pics I think the lec's on a verified legit watch could be seen. At any rate who knows at this point. I hope for the OP its legit. I really do. He didnt come on here with some mickey mouse story about inheriting/found it/craiglist/ etc BS. Or at least thats the way I take it. If it is a fake then its the best one I've ever seen in my life!!

Fagin how about when setting the time? Do the hands retard when winding it clock wise? How does the movement look?

bear with me its hopefully my first Rolex, unscrew the crown, wind one way and it winds the watch, the other way doesnt do anything, pull it out and the hour hand moves both ways in hour jumps, another pull and the seconds hand stops but all the others can be moved either way smoothly. hope that makes sense

Ok. Lets try this. Pull out the winding crown to the last position. Wind the crown upwards toward the sky. Does it set the time forward or backwards?

I've been comparing the clasp and scrollwork/printing to my black SS Daytona, and using magnification, there are a couple of slight differences that concern me. But I'm not sure whether the clasps, scrollwork and lettering would be identical on different models. If the lettering on the clasp of the GMT is supposed to be identical with the SS Daytona, then there may be a concern as there are variations in the lettering. Also, the sides of the stick markers at 6 and 9, and the triangle at 12 seem oddly matte finished as in the previously posted photo, posted again below:
Shouldn't they be shiny and flush? Why do they look unfinished? Is that coming from the dial? On all my sports model Rolexes, the sides of the markers are polished and gleaming when I examine them. Even the top of the minute hand exhibits this lack of polish. Just seems very odd to me because the round markers seem normal in this picture. I also wish there were a definitive method of determining if the LEC is wrong. If it is wrong, then the watch is wrong. But we seem to be willing to let it go after other factors weigh in. If we're not sure, ok. But if the LEC is wrong, no other evidence should cancel it out. |

Right. The second hand should stop/hack. But are you setting the time forward? Such as 4 05 to 4 10 etc or does it go from lets say 4 05 to 4 00 etc?

If you use a flashlight and tilt the watch, you'll see the LEC shows up better at different angles. If you're trying to photograph it, since it's inside the crystal, the focus will be blurry on the dial. In auto focus, the LEC will not be what the camera centers on but rather something larger like the bezel or dial.

Well I think thats one of many good signs on your watch IMHO. All the fakes Ive been around, which isnt many, cant do that. As Ive said Im in no means an expert and am not pretending to be. All Im doing is giving some of my limited advice and comparing yours against a real one on my wrist right now. Good luck Fagin

This is a lot of effort to prove whether or not the watch is a fake! I think it looks fine but the only one should be concerned is the OP.
Fagin, if any of this worries you like everyone else said, just take it to a watch maker to check the movement. Congrats on the watch BTW! :)

if its a fake , we could all be in trouble here . a new generation of superfakes , will make buying and selling a bit trickier for every one.

Fagin,
Looks like you have a genuine Rolex GMTIIc. Any local watchmakers can open the caseback and verify the movement for you. Congrats in advance!!!

Hand stack looks good, LT2 clasp code matches serial placing this around early 2009, fonts on date wheel and rehaute are fine, LEC is fine (mine are pretty visible depending on lighting), the harsh flash lighting doesn't help but I think it's legit. I compared OP's photos against my 116710 and 116718 macros.
PS: this is why loupes and macro pics are dangerous |
