Houston Gold Exchange
I needed a link removed from my barked beauty. I don't have the right size screwdriver and frankly am a bit intimidated by what is a fairly simple process... I went by my wife's long-time jeweler this morning to get it done but they weren't opened yet. If I recall, they charged me something like $12 last time (I know, I could have bought the screwdriver for that).
Being the impatient person that I am, I went over to the Houston Gold Exchange (Katy location - sorry Don! lol) and asked if they could do it. The owner said his guy was in the middle of a job, but that he'd give it a shot. We chatted while he removed the link and then handed it back to me. I thanked him and asked him how much and he said "nothing"! Who does THAT any more??? Believing that everyone should get their due I balked (a little ), so he told me to donate $10 to Wikipedia, since we all use it so much and they need some $$ for their servers. I've always been happy with HGE's service, but this really impressed me and put me in the holiday spirit. My (hardwood) hats off to my friends at the Houston Gold Exchange (yes, you too Don!). You know I will come to you for my next watch. (well, my wife's next watch - I have the one I want... I got her TT DJ from them a few years back) Here is what I got back from Wikipedia: Thank you for your gift of USD 10.00 to the Wikimedia Foundation, received on December 3, 2010. I’m very grateful for your support. Your donation celebrates everything Wikipedia and its sister sites stand for: the power of information to help people live better lives, and the importance of sharing, freedom, learning and discovery. Thank you so much for helping to keep these projects freely available for their nearly 400 million monthly readers around the world. Your money supports technology and people. The Wikimedia Foundation develops and improves the technology behind Wikipedia and nine other projects, and sustains the infrastructure that keeps them up and running. The Foundation has a staff of about fifty, which provides technical, administrative, legal and outreach support for the global community of volunteers who write and edit Wikipedia. Many people love Wikipedia, but a surprising number don't know it's run by a non-profit. Please help us spread the word by telling a few of your friends. And again, thank you for supporting free knowledge. Sincerely Yours, Sue Gardner Executive Director * To donate: http://donate.wikimedia.org * To visit our Blog: http://blog.wikimedia.org * To follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/wikimedia * To follow us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/wikipedia This letter can serve as a record for tax purposes. I forgive you...but I'd would have charged you! LOL
The nice thing is, doing a simple task at no charge at times is rewarding for both sides. It's going that extra mile. As a repeat customer is more valuable than a one-time customer. Plus word-of-mouth advertising is the best advertising there is!! - Donald
