Icon7 Nice experience at a bike shop

So I went to my local bike shop to pick up my Gary Fisher mtn bike after being serviced. One of the mechanics looks at my arm and says, "nice Speedmaster MKII!!" I was wearing my 1969 MKII (racing dial) on a grey rubber strap. Come to find out he had been trained in Switzerland as a watchmaker and turned down a job with Rolex because he didn't want to relocate to Dallas. Had a nice conversation about watches, bikes, airplanes, police work ect.

That's great! I would love to meet someone out of the blue and talk watches. Must have been a shock since a bike repair shop is not where you would expect that to happen. It just goes to show WIS are everywhere.

Sounds like fun. The guys at my bike shop don't know anything about watches. I think a good road or mountain bike and a mechanical watch have a lot in common.

I once complimented custom officer his beautiful IWC pilot watch, and he let me through without asking too many questions. LOL!!

I left out another great part of the story, bike related. I bought a new Bianchi CDI road bike in about 1998, steel, Campy equipped, right color (celeste of course!!!). I only rode it about a total of 100 miles, had it's 20 day check up and then it sat in my den ever since. Literally 99% condition. I had moved and started riding on the tow paths around here, hence the GF. So the wife decides she wants a hybrid bike. Work out a deal with the owner of the shop. He sells me (gives me) a brand new Cannondale Quick for the wife in exchange for the Bianchi. I go to pay for the repairs on my GF (new tires, tubes, one shifter, check up) and I only owed $17.00!!! The owner had opened up an account for me and there was still credit due to me from the trade in!! So, I got a sweet bike for the Warden, and my bike all fixed up for the price of a 16 year old bike that had just been taking up space in the den. I'm happy!!!

A Bianchi road bike in Celeste in good condition is the equivalent of your Speedmaster.

Mine is an older non suspension Marlin. Perfect for the tow path.
