Tips for Selling on the Forum
I'm off to my AD this week to discuss a new aquistion, and while I dread having to part with my Sub Date I may try selling it through the Forum. Having never done this before, how do the successful transactions usually go through? Buyer sends money, funds clear, seller sends watch...seems like a lot of trust involved from both parties. Any tips on how to go about this?

How things are handled all depends on the buyer/seller. We do have a great bunch here, TRF assumes zero responsibility for seller getting duped, or the buyer getting a fake or nothing at all.
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=9423 I can't recall an instance of either of the above happening. I hope it never does. That's one reason we try to keep a good eye on the FS board. If you go this route doc, good luck

I have purchased three watches from two forum members here and all has went well. First thing to do is read the rules of the For Sale Forum. Sounds kind of obivious, but I have noticed posts that did not follow the rules. I had a post deleted for improper comment and if I would have read the rules.....I would not have shinned my six. Second, give exact condition of the watch and detail what will come with the watch. I did this by pm and a telephone call and knew exactly what I would receive. Once you fix price and receive payment (I would only accept wire transfer in your case) then mail via priority USPS and insure. Some even suggest to send certified receipt. The old saying within the post office is "lose a red and you are dead". Simple.

I sold two Rolex to redsirt1957 above.
It was all intuition and a good feel about him that made the transaction feel fine. We talked on the phone and even after the sale have kept in contact. Its all how you feel about the seller/buyer. That makes it doable or disaster. |

I recently bought my GMT II on this forum in December. I had a smother transaction than of the stores I've been to, in my opinion. There was clear communication, plenty of PM's, as well as phone calls. I was leaving the country in a few days and the seller was able to have it overnighted and insured for a Saturday delivery. I would recommend going with your gut feeling as well for such a purchase. If it sounds too good... well you know the rest.
I paid the seller with PayPal while I was on the phone with him so that he could see it post. There is alot of trust involved. But I didn't rush into it... Thats my experience. I hope this helps.. |

i agree with above posts. i have bought on TRF, and no where else on the internet. would not buy on ebay. i think paypal is the easiest way to do payment. i think a piece of advice i would give is subtle but important....here at TRF we buy the seller, not the watch. so, do not be overly sensitive about giving references to buyers, to make them sanguine about buying from you. once you've been paid, ship immediately, package with loving care, and insure the item properly. in short, set new standards, and you will be trusted and admired. price? well, you're able to negotiate i'm sure. oh yeah, send good sharp close-up photos disclose all defects, even small ones, and maybe even understate the condition of your watch.
GOOD LUCK! best, dan Last edited by unclesallie; 1 February 2008 at 08:22 PM.. Reason: add more comments |
