Sub-C bezel pearl

So I bought a Sub-C 3 years ago. about 6 months ago I noticed the bezel pearl was shattered. It remained there until about 1 month ago when I noticed it was completely gone. My questions to you guys are 1)has this been an ongoing issue? how much does it cost to repair? also I don't want to spend to much to repair it because I'm sure it will just happen again.

Chances are you'll need to change the entire insert.

Bummer. There was a thread on this last week and I think it was determined that it will cost around $400 USD to replace the insert....the pearl cannot be replaced, the entire bezel has to come out. I would first contact your nearest AD/RSC and see if it will be replaced under warranty. If there is no evidence of damage around the area, you may get it replaced free of charge. Keep us updated

Bummer. Good luck! Sounds like you may need to send it away for a while...

To be honest, $400 is not bad at all to replace a ceramic bezel considering 2 things: I thought originally it was determined (here on TRF) that it was $1,000, secondly, the bezel is a pretty substantial part of the real estate on a sub, GMT, etc. so I would pay that in a heartbeat to have it fixed.

Most older Subs that I see have the pearl missing. I don't see why the Sub-C would be any different. I figure that they will all fall out sooner or later. I'd rather just enjoy the watch the way it is. Replacing the entire insert is very costly and not worth it given that the pearl will more than likely fall out again. JMHO.

The thing is, a missing pearl on a vintage sub looks cool. Missing on a ceramic just looks wrong. IMO.

It's not about what looks cool and what doesn't. My point is, more than likely, the pearl is going to fall out sooner or later. Is it wise to replace the insert to the tune of $1000 (from what I've read) every time the pearl falls out? I'd rather just enjoy the watch the way it is. Again, JMHO.

Sorry to hear about this. If it were me, I'd live with it. It's not a monetary decision, it's just that in my humble opinion, it adds character to the piece. But it's your watch, so I'm sure you'll do what you think is best. Good luck!

I'd leave it out until I sent it in for service. Don't sweat it.

Well IMHO its very expensive for what it is considering the old aluminum inserts were $52 and very easy to replace and a new insert in the UK is now £410 they were £360.

Just because a watch is high quality it doesn't mean you can't break it by whacking it on something.

And (in the UK at least) there hasn't been a price rise since approx. April 2012

The $1000 plus that you are referring to is replacing the entire bezel with insert, the insert alone is less.

Just talked to ROLEX Dallas - Service

My husband owns a DSSD (still under warranty) and recently lost the pearl on the insert. He sent it to ROLEX Dallas for service and we received a call today about the cost to repair.

ROLEX has just RECENTLY started replacing the "capsule" - their term - for a cost of $120 versus the $300 cost of replacing the complete insert as previously done. The reason for the $120 charge during a warranty period is because the capsule/pearl is missing from an impact to the watch and not a cosmetic issue. Their assessment about an impact as he doesn't know when he lost the pearl. But with their assessment of an impact ROLEX wants to check the movement and the seals to ensure the watch is working properly. The cost of that service is zero and falls under warranty.

Hope this helps anyone else on the fence who wants to replace a missing pearl.

Thanks for the info! That sure beats $300, but the bummer is, is that this has to be done at an RSC, which means at least a month w/out the watch.
