Dssd or Daytona

Hi was curious as to which one of these should I get for an everyday watch. I have had my eye on the dssd for awhile now but now the Daytona has caught my eye. Just curious as to what most of you all think.

So different and so depends on taste...Totally subjective. Go try both on and make an educated choice. Clearly one will speak to you more!

From what I've heard the Daytona can be tough to read and it lacks the date. Seems to me that it is the right choice if using chronometer functions is important to you. Personally I'd love a Sea Dweller (DS or not).

Or if like me you simply like the looks! Guessing most DSSD owners don't go deep diving either!

If you are looking for a single watch to be a daily wearer between these two I would look at how your day to day looks. The daytona skews a bit dressier (looks perfect with suit) while the DSSD is definitely more rugged looking. If the continuum of daily attire goes from flip flops and shorts to a suit...determine which side of that continuum you lean towards mostly.

As a personal note, I have a daytona and haven't had any issue reading the time, but as stated, there is no date (between my cell and my computer though there just aren't many instances where I don't have access to the date so it's a non-issue for me). I will say the daytona is the most comfortable watch I have worn.

Here we go again...... two watches that seem to bring out the strongest polar opinions, and very different watches.

My thoughts, which will probably match to every thread:

First and foremost both are robust and will happily live as your daily watch for say the next 40 years give or take.

Some will argue but the best way to think about is, the Daytona is more a dress watch that goes well with suits, dressing up or down. The DSSD is more of a tool watch and is probably the most true/extreme sports watch Rolex make.

The DSSD may be an issue if you have a smaller wrist, if you have a big wrist the Daytona may look small (or so some say).

The Daytona particularly in TT or pure gold form, will scratch a bit on the bezel and bracelet, if that worries you then SS should be the choice.

Some seem to have issues with the thickness of the DSSD (refer comment about suits) and a few dislike the writing around the dial.

Ultimately buy what you like both are cracking watches, both can be easily re sold particularly as a SS Daytona. First ask yourself what you are going to be wearing with the watch (i.e business shirts) if not then the DSSD would be fine, for me it would drive me nuts if wearing it to work, but others may say it is fine. As I said if you want something that dresses up and down Daytona is the way to go, if you are more a sports watch guy and dont wear tight buttoned shirts DSSD, the fact it is an EVERYDAY watch means you have to think closely on it IMHO.

For me Daytona was the answer but I also own a Sub, but would never want the thickness of the DSSD, mr wrist are normal size and I need a watch that fits with my work dress code.

Wow, could there be two watches in the Rolex line that are more different? Both are very impressive pieces, one as rugged as can be, the other an eye catcher with complications. In my opinion, neither is a daily wearer, but hey, that's just me.

As I'm always mucking around the ocean and boating; a higher depth rating to me seems like a good thing.

Go try them on and see what you think....I like my Daytona, no date is no big deal. Had it on yesterday and was commenting to co-workers that it is one of the most comfortable to wear watches I own. It's not difficult to read, at least for me.

Good luck with your search.

as long as its a rolex, you're halfway to the answer you're looking for.

try them both. buy the one you like. keep it forever.

I think you should get what you like.

Personally the DSSD is way too large for my wrist. I have a white dial Daytona that I think is a great watch.

Three years ago I went in to buy a DSSD and came out with a SubC. 71/2 inch wrist but the DSSD was just too tall for me. Last year bought the Daytona SS white. Like it a lot, into actual auto racing and I like its history. But my daily wearer is the sub.

Yes it's a good thing but the Daytona is good for 100 m and when was the last time anyone on this board was below 100 m? Regardless, the DSSD is a great watch so it comes down to how one will use it. A white Daytona is a dressy watch while a DSSD is a sport watch that works anywhere. Toss a coin and take your pick.

I was also thinking of getting a Daytona .. at least to see what the hype was all about. None of the ADs had it in stock and those who did, were too far for me to make it worth the drive...

So I bought this ALPHA-Daytona, a homage watch to the Rolex Daytona, for size comparisons. It cost me a whoppiing $80, 5yrs ago...

When it arrived, I put it on and the size was just way too small for me. So I finally abandoned my quest for the Daytona...

Daytona always seemed a bit small for me...I'd go DSSD if you don't mind a little larger piece. It is a bit thick, but after you wear it for a while you do get accustomed to it fairly quickly. The other trick with the DSSD is the removal of the diver extension for the perfect fit....once you do that it wears quite comfortably.

I found the DSSD to be very obese.... I mean thick. Great looking watch, however, just a bit too thick for my tastes.

I have both.

Had Daytona as daily beater for 4 years and took it everywhere.

About 3 months ago I also bought Deepsea.

I like both, but if I should choose only one watch, it would be Daytona.

Daytona was too small for me and DSSD too thick, but the subc was just right.
