I've got a few big ones. I'll still wear this one if I'm hacking on the sailboat and worried about some really rough service.

This one just doesn't get worn.

Great choice on that white dial. Mine says hello. Have a great one.
A Mechanical Engineer would simply measure his Daytona across the bezel and would see that 40mm is 38.5mm.

That is why it wears smaller.

Mine also says hi!!

I think most who wear a 36mm every day for many years would have a hard time going right to a YMII or DSSD, as those are both on the larger side of the spectrum... Try a Sub or Daytona and wear for a while, then a YMII won't feel so huge... I wore a DJ for a few years before I got a Navitimer, and after a year or two a PAM088. I thought the Navitimer was huge at first, but by the time I got a 44mm PAM, it wasn't big at all... I now wear either an AP ROO or DSSD most days to work (with dress shirts) and don't notice the size at all.

If the large watch trend is fading, why is AP still selling so many ROO's? Even upsizing many from 42 to 44? Everyone has their own style, likes, dislikes, preferences, etc... Many will always prefer larger watches, and many will always prefer smaller watches, and many will not care and like specific things about watches no matter the size.

Not even close, I think its more younger guys with normal sized wrists will rarely wear under 38mm anymore.

Honestly, this thread and it's premise is rather silly maybe immature...and in the Rolex section? The brand who's largest watch is 44mm and who is always criticised for evolving so slowly and who is very conservative.

Just get the watch you want and be happy, why are you worried about what and why someone buys something and whether it's a fad or meets your criteria.
Buncha kids walking around wearing huge headphones, ok....
Buncha people walking around with watches with no dates on them, ok....
Buncha people walking around without even having a watch, and use their phones, ok....
Are these fads, watches with dates outdated, etc...

So in summary: Chill out bro, just get the little watch.

So far I have seen the following:

Rolex GMT II - 40mm
Rolex SD4000 - 40mm
Rolex Milgauss - 40mm

Omega Seamaster 300M - 41mm

I'm a bit surprised that Omega being at the early big watch stages with the 46mm PO in 2005 coming out with only a 41mm option. In my mind, these are bold statements on what the proper watch sizes are.

By the way, kudos to Rolex on the SD4K release as it will sure be a winner. My funds for a JLC Reverso are now being reverted over to Rolex.
i don't think its over. there's a market for bigger watches. what's really amazing is how womens watch tastes have fundamentally changed. my wifes rolex OP is absolutely tiny compared to a 39mm exp or a daytona but a 39mm exp or 40mm daytona is easily pulled off by many women today. that's a drastic change... and a nice one too.

For a "health care professional" you seem to have got more wound up about this than all of us put together.

You need to chill out mate.

Regarding anything bigger that 40mm being too big, look at many dive watches and they are up around 50mm. They're dive watches and in general not meant as fashion accessories. That said, big guys look good with a watch in proportion to their arms. I like the first watch I showed for a knock around watch. It is a beast and I don't care if it takes a lick or five. I don't wear it except when I'm sailing a Hobie or boating because there is a good chance it will get banged up and it's pretty water resistant (supposedly 500m). Is it really? Who knows and who cares? For my use it is plenty water resistant and for a bit over a hundred it is fine. For any other purpose it is just too awkward and heavy. I have another big watch on a silicone dive band that I use over a wetsuit. It is also big. Good enough for playing in the surf and not somewhere I want to take a Rolex. They are true beaters.

My 40mm Sub feels like a mid size watch compared to the Pam, PO, etc.... I get use to it but even before my bigger watches, the Submariner never felt like a large watch on my 6' 3" body. My older eyes like the bigger watches. I am glad there are now more varieties of sizes and styles, especially in the sport watch category.
Well said, and at times I feel like a minority of Rolex owners try to convince themselves that 40mm is the "perfect" size. Look, if you're happy with it, fine, but let's not crap on those who prefer larger watches. It's not a trend anymore and the 42-46mm is here to stay...

Size is important, but it really comes down to how you use it.

The only trend I can see is a small group of people discussing a non-existent 'trend'

Quite entertaining though

The bigger is better trend is more alive than ever. I am running into tons of people
wearing the godawful invictas and who knows what else. Those watches make the deepsea look like a ladies watch. It is as though these people are in desperate need of attention -- trying to scream "Hey! Look at me!!".
These watches are just monsterous creations of nothing but garbage but they do garner a lot of attention and others seem to go gaga over them.

I saw one guy wearing I don't know what it was but it was 3 inches thick and another guy approached him and said "wow, what a beautiful watch!" and I just realized that the standard of the common man is not that high.
