If the large watch trend is fading, why is AP still selling so many ROO's? Even upsizing many from 42 to 44? Everyone has their own style, likes, dislikes, preferences, etc... Many will always prefer larger watches, and many will always prefer smaller watches, and many will not care and like specific things about watches no matter the size. |

Exactly!
Honestly, this thread and it's premise is rather silly maybe immature...and in the Rolex section? The brand who's largest watch is 44mm and who is always criticised for evolving so slowly and who is very conservative. Just get the watch you want and be happy, why are you worried about what and why someone buys something and whether it's a fad or meets your criteria. Buncha kids walking around wearing huge headphones, ok.... Buncha people walking around with watches with no dates on them, ok.... Buncha people walking around without even having a watch, and use their phones, ok.... Are these fads, watches with dates outdated, etc... Who cares, live and let live(Wow, a wise man named Dan once told me that). As a healthcare professional this is what I know..... worrying creates stress, stress is associated in hypertension, which then leads to coronary artery disease, strokes, cardiac palpitations, aortic aneurisms, headaches, mood swings, appetite fluctuations, and states of hyper vigilance and anxiety relating to things one cannot control. So in summary: Chill out bro, just get the little watch. |

You've heard of 'growth sperts'....well who knows Rolex might have one next year and who knows it could be 47mm

Regarding anything bigger that 40mm being too big, look at many dive watches and they are up around 50mm. They're dive watches and in general not meant as fashion accessories. That said, big guys look good with a watch in proportion to their arms. I like the first watch I showed for a knock around watch. It is a beast and I don't care if it takes a lick or five. I don't wear it except when I'm sailing a Hobie or boating because there is a good chance it will get banged up and it's pretty water resistant (supposedly 500m). Is it really? Who knows and who cares? For my use it is plenty water resistant and for a bit over a hundred it is fine. For any other purpose it is just too awkward and heavy. I have another big watch on a silicone dive band that I use over a wetsuit. It is also big. Good enough for playing in the surf and not somewhere I want to take a Rolex. They are true beaters.

Size is important, but it really comes down to how you use it.

The only trend I can see is a small group of people discussing a non-existent 'trend'
Quite entertaining though

The bigger is better trend is more alive than ever. I am running into tons of people
wearing the godawful invictas and who knows what else. Those watches make the deepsea look like a ladies watch. It is as though these people are in desperate need of attention -- trying to scream "Hey! Look at me!!". These watches are just monsterous creations of nothing but garbage but they do garner a lot of attention and others seem to go gaga over them. I saw one guy wearing I don't know what it was but it was 3 inches thick and another guy approached him and said "wow, what a beautiful watch!" and I just realized that the standard of the common man is not that high. |
