Oh well....
I guess when my day comes for a 5980, it'll be in the secondary market. |

This was initially communicated to AD's last year.
I wonder how many further models will be discontinued this year to make way for the 175th anniversary collection. |

Will the new watches come out in a month on the actual anniversary date, or are they scheduled to be released much later in the year?

That's too bad, in my opinion a lot of those watches look much better than the new releases but hey, it's a part of the game and surely these references had to be discontinued at some point.
Thank you for sharing that information.

A friend of mine attended the Goverg Patek event recently and was told there will not be a price increase this year from a Patek corporate person ( his name may have been Thierry or something like that ;) )

I'm very curious to see what will happen to secondary prices on the 5170J...

I think the 5170J is one of the best watches produced by Patek in recent years. I could never understand why so many were sat unsold in the windows of AD's.
I think the softness will evaporate and prices will start climbing for this relatively short lived reference. As an owner of the 5170J this could be considered wishful thinking! |

The size of discounts on it are huge. Just don't understand it at all.

From my POV, I think the 5170j is beautiful. But, at that price, it is basically playing in the same sandbox as the annuals, which IMO offer much more bang for the buck - eg, automatic movement, date, cooler complications, etc.

I suspect the price increase from the 5070 chronos to the 5170J contributed to the soft pricing of the 5170J initially. It is also tough for a watch reference when the first metal they release is in yellow gold. Although yellow gold is a classic, it is not as popular in today's world. Also during the time the 5170J was released, currency exchange rates were quite different than when the 5170G was released. This meant in many markets the 5170J actually had a list price higher than the 5170G which made it a tougher sell for the ADs after the 5170G came out.
