Watch size vs Pics

I'm sure I'm just weird but after viewing so many pics of watches... especially the subs the one I have on my wrist (16610LV) seems to look small.

I'm sure it's just the effect of seeing so many close up pics but does that happen to anyone else?

well it is a matter of perspective and frame of reference

most (me) show relatively close up pics of the watch so all can see the beautiful detail, probable because it is a watch forum not a wrist or body forum

would look at some of the pics on the what are you wearing threads for a better frame of reference

for example this pic….

becomes this, top for reference bottom for better detail….

I always reduce my page zoom to a realistic size when I am seriously thinking about buying a watch.

Just like Mick Jagger and the Taj Mahal.....Rolex watches always look smaller than expected in person.

Yes I understand what you're saying. Tom's thoughts on the matter sum it up well.

Agree with Mick but not sure about the Taj Mahal, Adam, seemed pretty big when I visited it.

Very timely. I was in an AD in Huntsville, AL today to see a GMT-Master II, and was really taken aback by it's diminutive size. My own perspective has shifted no doubt from wearing the Exp II night and day.

Yep same with me. Close up pictures make a watch look large then when you get to handle one its like, oh...

Me too. Wearing the 42mm ExpII has made me feel like my Subs are tiny.

OP: does this mean that you bought a Sub solely based on photos on the interwebs? When I buy a watch I'm never surprised by the size because by the time I get it I've already tried it on numerous times in AD's.

Edit: just re-read your post, I understand what you meant now

Bear in mind that you may be somewhat bigger than average and that this is an international board and that some pictures may be of those who are somewhat smaller than average.

Sometimes when I see a wrist shot, I think that the watch looks to be about 60mm, when I know that it's really 40mm.

That's because I'm accustomed to seeing the same watch on my own wrist, which is about 7.75".

Wow, that first shot is great!
Light, color, and angle really bring out the beauty of your watch.

Watches always look bigger in photographs than in person. I was amazed at how small my 16600 really was when I first put it on.

But when I take wristshots, it always seems to look bigger than it is, even though I have quite thick wrists.

Ok, cool it's not just me...

I had gone to an AD to look before buying but they only had the new ceramic models. My first reaction was ""ow are the older models so much smaller?!?!"

Then I figure out it was the perspective of the shots and relaxed...
