A young punk at a pawn shop told me that "Sir you get more respect when you wear a Rolex". I think many Rolex buyers believe that that and are just buying the name.

I wonder if any -s have been jailed for trying to bribe government officials after hearing/reading this "fact" and putting it to the test.

I think this topic has not only been beaten to death, but it has been sliced and diced; minced and mashed; and pulverized into dust. But whenever it pops up, it's still enlightening and amusing to read nonetheless.

Great way to start off a thread

Buying anything beyond a $100 atomic solar G-Shock with chronograph, perpetual calendar, alarm, etc. is poor value for money.

While my Sub C is my "Go To" watch, and the Explorer II white dial that I picked up recently is giving it a run for the money, I love my Omegas. Here's one I added to the collection today:

Here is a pic of both. I think the Rolex aged better than the Omega.

A state of the art automatic movement is like a state of the art horse and buggy.

That said, as soon as Omega stops trying to be Rolex, they might get back to their glory days. (My daily wearer is a vintage De Ville, and I have a 2500 PO + a Sea Dweller)

Beautiful pair! Looks like the omega has been around the block while the Rolex is babied a bit more:)

I don't believe all purchases are based on "top of the line/best technology" I buy Rolex because I grew up loving the brand. The same reason I'm a Niner fan because I love the team. Sure we went though a decade being an inferior team but I am loyal. My watches aren't a necessity for me. I buy them because I'm a fan of the brand. To be honest I don't remember one time using my watch to tell time I got a iphone habit. You can call it vein and I'm ok with that.

Actually I have GMT II C and PO Chrono, both are different watches
1 - If you like shinny bezel go with the Rolex.
2 - If you want a clear dial go to the Omega.
3 - If you need bracelet that you won't worry for being scratched go Omega.
4 - More power reserve. Omega again.
5 - Brand recognition Sure Rolex.
6 - Save some money.Omega
I think no need to say which is better. Clear

Although I lean toward the Rolex brand, there's something about my PO 2500 that I really like. Functionality is comparable to any Sub, aesthetics appeal to me more than any other dive watch.

Of course Omega has been enjoying the relationship and had quickly entered a licencing agreement - but they didn't buy or bid on the Bond Cachet - it found them.

As far as Omega vs Rolex - like arguing Betty vs Veronica or any personal subjective matter -

I don't think that it is possible to argue because there is too much sentiment and emotion - these are emotional objects - we wouldn't be paying the prices we do if they were just wrist-worn fomites...

The only thing I will state is that I believe that the whole 're-sale' 'price hike' arguments are short sighted.

It will take probably a decade to change minds...but Omega is playing the long game. Their strategy is solid, and starting to play out very well for them.

I think that many people aren't looking past their own front door.

It is a big world out there. Asian market has started to prove the point.

Instead of a pissing match rivalry, we should all be rejoicing...no one's ego is threatened here...we can (and many of us do) buy both!

If anything, Omega's great strides lately has spurred rolex into action.

I don't think we would have seen the DSSD, or many of these new watches if Rolex didn't feel the market share erode....they hadn't created a new model in decades. Rolex was resting on its laurels when it was the only player in the game...

Competition benefits us - the consumers - we should all be grateful for it, not resent it....
sensible post my friend
I like several watch brands for different reasons. Why shouldn't I? No need to choose sides here. relax and enjoy wristwatches
