Buying A New Panerai Help Needed!!!
Hello guys I really need to hear a lot of everyones thoughts on this matter.
Should I buy the TT marina on a bracelet or the GMT on a bracelet?? I love the chocolate brown dial on the mirina but also like the two tone look on the gmt? i'm kinda leaning to the chocolate marina also becasuse i have been told they have made less of those, is this true? here are some pics of each one. Also has anyone heard anything good about a seller on ebay who goes by the name of the WatchcollectorNY? thanks all and hope to hear from you all soon! |

I would go with the GMT.
Take the bracelet off & you have an 88. It looks killer. You will NOT be disappointed with the bracelet. I will take severe Rolex whipping, but the Panerai bracelets are second to none , IMHO. I have seen that seller on Risti. He posts regularly. From what he sells & he's not getting flogged over there, I would trust the guy.

GMT's are a great feature, but I feel that the hands and dial of the model shown are too busy and different for my personal liking.
The Marina looks much more classic Panerai in its dial configuration. The bonus with the Marina is the bracelet, that does look great and it gives you an additional option to fitting straps as you please. I do like the stealth (dull) look of titanium, and also the feel So I vote for the Marina, but you know you must wear what you like.

Steve,
I was just thinking the same tonight! how nice the marina would look if i put it on a strap and switched on and off with the bracelet.. I'm trading in my breitling watch to put some money down for the marina, I feel that breitlings just do not hold their value well, but that goes without saying i love breitlings, I just think I'm ready for that more classic look of the panerai that my breitling just does not have. My only other watch is a TT sub that I would never trade... IMO you always need a rolex in your collection. I also heard rumors that panerai is changing the look of their bracelets, have you heard of this? in any sense panerais are just very hard to come by and they also hold their value very well and they are also very sharp. |

Panerai are changing their bracelet design. The new design is a little more streamlined, less articulation in the links.
I think the Marina is just more aesthetically pure (I know I will get hammered for this) than the GMT, but it is really up to your personal tastes and preferences. You know which one I prefer.

well let me ask you all a question and you to steve.
If I trade my breitling for this panerai, this guy from ebay called "thewatchcollectorNY" how should I cover my self? He seems very legit as all he sells are high end watches and has nothing but great feedback. this is going to be done outside of ebay.. He said he will email me an overnight lable to send my watch to him, once he gets it he will over night the same day his watch to me. I know he does this all day long but i still can't help to think what if... I really don't know how else I should cover my self? What do you guys think i should do? If I buy the item on ebay he will get all of the seller charges and not give me as good of a deal. If he is a trusted power seller should I not worry about it and just send my watch to him and expect my new one? |

As for "watchcollectorny", I know Gil personally. He is trustworthy. If you have any problem with him, let me know.

Out of those two, 161. I love the GMT face and function.
The bracelet is by far and away the best bracelet I have ever owned. I just picked up a 106, submersible on bracelet with anthracite dial. Any dial with a date window is not authentic Panerai, IMHO, but I very much still love the look and feel of them. Either way, HOME RUN.

I vote for GMT, but I would get 88 instead of 161.

Well,
I pulled the trigger! I got rid of my breitling. I traded it for the panerai plus an additional amount in cash. From what I have heard of Gil AKA the watch collector NY, he seems to be a real stand up guy and very nice over the phone. I sent him off my watch along with a check. He will get my breitling and check tomorrow and then ship out overnight the panerai overnight so I will have it wed mornin. expect pictures!! this was not done in ebay, i am going on good faith with this transaction. I have his website office and cell number as well as two different address's so I think I'm in the clear, he has all positive feedback and does several high end watch transactions ferquently so I feel good about this. The PAM 279 is brand new in factory sealed plastics as well as a blank warrenty card. I saved some money on this deal, not a lot but he did cut me a fair deal for the trade in on my breitling. I didn't choose the gmt because i feel the two tone of the bracelet and watch case are a bit flashy, which is why i traded my breitling. I feel the all Ti marina will be much more durable and light on the wrist. the chocolate dial is also rare and prob will not be made much. the chocolate looks almost like black inless in the sunlight, there are also less made pam 279's than the gmt's.. I feel good about this all the way around. I also prefer the original looking panerai hands on the marina than the gmt hands. |

You bought from a very reputable seller. Not sure what the price you paid was, but the watch will be as described.

gmt if you want the bracelet. i love the bracelet on them but it isn't very popular on the historic models.
