Went to buy a Daytona, BUT I ran into a problem....

I went to finally pull the trigger on the SS Daytona with black dial, BUT when I put it on it looked like a lady's watch on my wrist. I don't have a watch over 42, but this looked REALLY small on my wrist. I am a fairly big guy (5'11, 240), but still this is a 40. Have you guys found the Daytona to look small on your wrist as well? The white dial looked even smaller.....

It must happen all the time, I keep reading about it on this forum.
Daytona is not the watch for you.

The Daytona is 40mm. It is what it is. 40mm for most people is an acceptable size.

A black dial watch will tend to look smaller than a white or lighter coloured dial watch.

I would not call the Daytona a 'small' watch but it can have that appearance especially if you are accustomed to 42-44+mm size watches.

Get the gradient DSSD. It will look sick on your wrist. I only wish my wrist was big enough to support it.

Multiple threads on this.

I found the black to look smaller when I tried it on, but not too small.

I love my white dial Daytona though. Great size, not too bulky. Sporty yet elegant and sophisticated at the same time. It works as a good casual watch, and fits under my shirt cuff perfectly.

FYI- my other watches are BLNR, 16610LV, DJII, and 116613LN . They are 40 and 41 respectively, and none look small to me.

I was surprised too, but in a good way, when I first put it on. I have small wrists so it looks just right.

Well Rolex should IMHO release a Daytona-Date at 43mm

Tag-Heuer earlier this year announced a great Daytona-Date look-alike in their CH80 model. It was to retail around $6,000.

However recently Tag-Heuer due to industrial logistics announced that the release date has been 'pushed back' on the CH80. There is no due date for release.

The point I am making is that Rolex should have released a Daytona-Date just like this watch, and it would have been an absolute KILLER in terms of popularity in every way you can think.

I have a Daytona with the blue dial and it is perfect size for me. I also have the DSSD and I must admit other watches seem smaller on my wrist too

I have had 9!! And gotten rid of them for one reason or another, number one was seemed little on small side

I have a DSSD and YMII, I think a dude your size would be better with something along those lines

Even the Platona, amazing or not is gonna look on the small side to you

You have a great collection, I'm thinking SS YM II

I don't have a big wrist, so I am fine. In fact, I think it makes it more an everyday watch as it have a smaller dial.

Get a Zenith VpH 42mm or a Speedmaster Professional.

Problem solved.

40mm is arguably the perfect diameter for a sporty watch. It's rarely ever too big or too small. Most wrists in the 6.25 to 8.25 range look fine with it, whereas 42mm is far too big for some, and 38mm is a bit too small for really gigantic wrists.

The lugs on the Daytona are smaller than subC and etc
So they do look smaller compared to the other line up
But u become used to it
I got used to mine and actually prefer the way it looks
I've also stopped wearing my 44+ hublot and AP

It wears smaller compared to a sub or gmt due to the lack of a rotating bezel and thinner case. It took about a few minutes to adjust, but I greatly prefer it to my outgoing sub. Different type of watch.

Umm... No, sorry. Putting a date there would ruin the Daytona. Please don't.

Thank you for the input sir! I think my next victim will be the 116619 and I'm gonna probably trade 3 to get this one. Now that the Daytona is out, time to get the GRAIL!!![

I tried on a few Daytona's earlier this week at an AD and it didn't look great on my wrist. I dont know if it was the size of the case and/or shape of my wrist but the sales rep even said she didn't like the Daytona on my wrist either. I guess BLNR for me instead!

Tom, quite a plethora of beauties AND a Porsche guy! You are my new online best friend! Love the little extra pop from the diamonds. I'll go straight up though. Trying to muster up the courage to pull this one off!!!

No problems here...and honestly my Daytona is my favorite piece in my collection. I probably wear it almost everyday...it needs NO updates or changes to this iconic timepiece. Just my 2...

Rick, many threads on the subject of several SS watches vs a precious metal.

And views and reasons for both, but you put that WG sub on you won't want anything else!! I got the diamond face cause the wife likes wearing it also

And Porsche guy would be an understatement!!

I know this is a Rolex thread but it sounds like you may wear a Breitling Super Avenger or even a Pam Submersible better on your wrist?

I am enjoying the slimmer profile of the Daytona right now

I usually wear a Sub C and the Daytona definitely fits me nicely. It just takes time to get used to "smaller" sized watches.

I've been eyeing the Day Date in 36mm. I think they're lovely in this size

The size is just right. The gleam of the black dial and the bezel also enhance the appearance and apparent size. Is there a larger watch you really want over the Daytona?
