Can I try on your Rolex?

Once in a while, people ask me to try on my Rolex. I'm curious to know how you feel about this and if you gladly take your watch off to let others try it on. Is it rude to just say "no"??

In over 25 years of owning Rolex watches I've never had anyone ask me to try one on.

I'll let friends try it on. However, I handle it carefully and place it on their wrist.

I have let others try on my Rolex watches. I'm not likely to do so for complete strangers.

Just tell them it's very bad luck to try on other people's jewelry & watches. Usually works wonders.

If it is someone that I know very well I will say sure, otherwise a polite no is in order.

I've never sweated it. I've had tons of people try my watches on. And I've tried on many others.

It's all in the delivery and setting expectations.

I always say yes. However, if it's over a tile floor I pay special attention to how it goes down.

I hand them over within 2 seconds.
They appriciate my watch, I love mine.
Ofcourse they can try it on! I just make sure they understand to be careful. Shit can always happen.

Well only people that you really know might ask to try on your watch anyways, anyone else will be an "NO"

Usually it's someone I know well that asks for such a thing. And I'm usually happy to let them try it and insist they keep it on for sometime because this is how they get a feel for it.

Many years ago, when I had my very first Rolex, a friend/work colleague asked to try it on and I nervously allowed him to. Shortly afterward, another asked to "borrow" it for a few days to wear to an out of town job interview. I said absolutely not!! No one has ever asked me since and if they did I would politely decline.

You can tell them you have scabies on your wrists. That will do the trick.

I've only let my parents, wife, and close friend try it on. I let my parents for obvious reasons, my wife because I'm not dumb enough to tell her "no" after she let me buy it, and I let my friend because it's hard to tell a guy "no" to trying on a $8k watch when he has no problems letting you climb behind the wheel of one of his $200k cars.

Has never happened but if it did my response might be something like...

"Sure, just please give me your wallet, license and car keys first. I would like to go for a ride in your car while you do."

In truth, if it was a friend or relative I probably wouldn't care. Sure... have a look. It's just a watch - not the the holy grail.

But a stranger -> not likely.

I have never been asked this question.

If I do get asked my response would depend on who is asking.
