GMT Bezel Incerts

Where do you guys get the Bezel Incerts for your GMT's?

Will the AD's sell them. My AD does not think I should even own a Rolex, much less any kind of parts.

I think it would be fun to change them from time to time.

Thanks,

The President

Most AD should be able to supply a insert for you.

Just ONE question, PR....why does your AD feel you shouldn't own a Rolex?

Hummernut,

I am tired of leeds & son. I asked them about changing the bezel and they first said they did not think you could do it. Next, they said it was possible but, the watch would have to be sent in to Rolex for it to be done! Then, they said it could be done and they keep the old bezel. This is an AD?

But, the best part...are you ready...the dumb girl tried to sell me the Leopard Daytona!!! Ya, the Leopard Daytona. I just told her I would not give her fifty bucks for that piece of junk. She then told me they had to fight, and fight hard to get that piece in the store from Rolex.

I have been a good customer in there and they told me I would not get a Green Sub, moreover, I would never see one in person. After that statement it was just a little more than 18 hours and I was wearing it. Thank you gray market.

Anyway, that night, I skipped my usual mixed cocktail and drank the whisky straight.

Have you had any luck in there? Also, we live in PD

Best,

The President

PS...They also said I will never own a Daytona and they will never sell one to me since I am not a good customer.

Sounds like your AD is a real POS. I'd find another one

Ditto what Mailman said.I think with those sought of goings on and the lack lustre service I think I would complain to Rolex USA.

It p#sses me off when that sought of attitude is dished out.

Aaron.

BTW. Depends on your relationship with an AD will determine how you will go in securing the inserts.

Like most Rolex parts Rolex like to verify that you indeed own a particular model and they do like to keep the old parts.(Trying to minimize the chance of parts used on fakes etc.)There are always ways around things, you just have to try and work the system.

Hi Pres.
I bought my spare GMT Insert from a when known member of another Forum who lives in Denmark. Europeans are able to secure genuine Rolex parts quite easily from their ADs. Rolex USA (remember to think of this as a separate company) discourages it's ADs from buying parts. They want all servicing done through the RSCs and they will NOT return used parts (questionable legality but, in their words "sue me").

You can get replacement or spare parts. It just requires some diligence and the right contacts.

As for changing the bezel insert on the GMT whenever the mood strikes I would urge extreme caution. This is NOT as easy as it sounds or looks. There is a very nasty little tension spring under the insert that I swear is designed to fly as far away as possible into deep pile carpet or your largest fish tank. If you only want to change it once or twice a year I'd find a watchmaker with the delicate touch to do it for you.

Good luck.

the funny thing is they tried to sell me a Leopard too when I was last there.......

They are a very pretentious store, and lost my business because of that.

AD relationship...

I found out the hard way that it is not easy to cultivate a good relationship with an AD. At least that's what happened to me. I had quite a good relationship with the watch dept mgr and he would give me great deals. Soon it became the watch of the month club and I was spending a lot of $. The more I bought the more often he would call me. Sometimes he would call every day for awhile.

The owner didn't (and still doesn't) care for me, since I'm not really part of the upper crust of society, which after all is just a bunch of crumbs held together by dough.

I got into a big fight with them about a diamond matter and they told me they didn't want my business. Meanwhile I became friendly with the Rolex trained watchmaker and we remain friends. I think I am welcome there, but I don't go there very often anymore.

The watch mgr went to another store and we did some business. Then he moved out of town and I never heard from him again. Now I realize I was just being played. They must have had a pool there, to see if he could get me to buy a watch on a given day.

I prefer to have a good business relationship, but remember it's a business. I don't want to have "friends" in the business since it can lead to trouble. At least it did with me.

SS Sub Insert Change

I changed the bezel insert on my early 90's SS Sub Date. It wasn't a big deal.

I wasn't too scared about doing it myself since it's my daily beater Rollie.

I just used a tiny eye glass screw driver to pop the old insert off and then used some body english and a couple plastic tools to evenly press the new bezel in place. With a loud SNAP the new bezel locked right in place. No big deal.

I saw the spring you're talking about.... it was not going anywhere when I went down below on the sub.

Maybe I got lucky :)

Now I wouldn't try this on a new 18K Sub ;)........ she'll go to the AD for works ;)..

Next Lesson - How to remove the crystal, hands, change the face in your own home without screwing things up> LOL...... wonder it it's possible?
