Speedmaster Questions

I currently own a Rolex Sub. date. I have been considering getting a Speedmaster professional as well.

How the heck do you tell what the age is of an Omega speedmaster. With my Rolex it has a letter which associates to the year.

I've seen the 3570.50 which I believe is the current model?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there!

Yes, the 3570.50.00 is the current one.
As for determining the age of any Omega (vintage or new) you can go by the
serial numbers (quite the same way you do it with Rolex). Only instead of a
letter up-front (like M or Z) with Rolex, Omega uses an 8 digit number.

With Omega you go by the first 2 numbers of the serial#s...

Here's just an example: the serial# that starts with 32 can roughly be dated to
the year 1970...

The most current numbers (so that you'll have an idea when you buy your new Speedy) are:

Serial#s that start with 70: roughly 2004
Serial#s that start with 72: roughly 2005
Serial#s that start with 78: roughly 2005 - 2006
Serial#s that start with 81: roughly 2007
Serial#s that start with 84: roughly 2007 all the way to 2008

(Note: these are just rough approximations, but should provide accurate enough dating...)

The serial numbers are located on the underside of one of the lugs. It is also
engraved on the movement of the watch as well...

Hope this helps...

You'll enjoy your Speedy!!! Get it... it is one of the instant classics... and a
hell of a historic & important watch!!!
