Shopping in NYC
Hi folks,
I'm in NYC for a few meetings next week. The dollar is good value against the pound at present which is helpful. I'll have some free time so I may check out a few SH/vintage dealers. Can anybody recommend any places to check out? Cheers, Adam |

Deco Fine Jewelry - Patrick Tzeroya
501 5th Ave (across the street from Bryant Park) Patrick is very nice and is generally quick with turnaround if you know what you're looking for. Central Watch 45th Street Passageway in Grand Central Terminal between Tracks 38 & 39 This shop has been featured on Hodinkee, and Ben speaks highly of them. Alltiques Antiques - John Criscitiello 70 Bowery Street John sells antiques including vintage watches. He showed me a 6542 GMT with a tropical dial he had for sale. Very friendly guy and knows his stuff. Tempus Fvgit - George Aloi 40 W. 25th Street George has a small stand in the Showplace Antique Center near the Flatiron District. He sells vintage and used watches. Also very friendly and knowledgeable. |

A quick search on the Forum will yield plenty of reasons to avoid Aaron Faber.
If you are an experienced judge of watches and good negotiator try the shops on 47th Street (the jewelry district, between Fifth and Sixth). Some reliable ones are Tuscany Rose (John Buckley, that the dial is named after) or Renaissance watches. Avoid the rigged auctions you see advertised on the street. There are also selling Forum members and reputable vintage dealers with a strong web presence who are located in NYC and you could arrange to meet in person. |
