Question about 1977 Submariner?

Hello All. Fairly new here.
So I finally "scraped" enough for a submariner and wanted to get 1977 version. Started looking for one and all of them are over $10k mark. Wanted to know what makes 1977 version cost so much?

Thanks

Depends, very broad question. 70's Subs are gaining steam.

Ah yep it seems I came across 5513 feet first which was around 10k. regular 1680 is around 6-7k mark.

Thank you

For less money I personally would go with a brand new one with a two year warranty, solid bracelet, new clasp, plus all the other upgrades. It's all these things vs a 37 year old watch that other people have been wearing.

R u sure? Look elsewhere. For that money I want unpolished near mint full set, unless it's special but then again specials like milsub or comex would cost u 10 times more. 70's sub is awesome n classic. Don't worry about wear, most if not all r still a few second within scoc, that tells u something. Keep looking!

Must be because of the drawn Grand Final between Collingwood and North Melbourne that year.

I'm guessing the OP wants a 1977 Sub to commemorate something that happened in 1977 (doubt it's Collingwood vs N Melbourne). I'd like a 1978 1665 to commemorate my birth, and no way would a new 116600 substitute.

Good luck to the OP's search. Good examples are hard to come by (do your homework) and cost serious coin. That said they are only getting more expensive.

Yep. I was born in 1977 so thought it would be cool to have birth year model

Exactly what I ended up doing. Just received brand new 114060 model from AD. All the new updated features are hard to pass by and cost was also big consideration. Day 2 wearing and I'm very happy. Only thing is I'm afraid to move my arm around because i'm afraid of scratching it :)

Check the for sale section. 5513 on page one for around 9k but you could always make an offer. I'm not a vintage expert but this one had original box and papers and was not over polished. Good luck on your hunt

What's your top dollar? I find one of the best parts of this hobby is the hunt for the right watch. So if this is something you really want, take your time, save some more $$ and enjoy the search!

I think it depends on what model your looking for

I picked this 1978 - 1680 Sub up in May for well under $10K. For me - it was the best I could get after many years of research\ questions

If your looking for a 1970's submariner for model\ look, etc of the watch - the people who suggest you buy brand new don't get it. A '77 & a 2014 submariner are like chalk\ cheese

5513 or 1680

Both the date and no date submariners from the 1970's are great choices.

My redsub 1680 is my personal favorite watch- it's the one I wear every day:

I didn't see this post. The new sub is a great watch. I tried on this exact same watch a few weeks ago. I was very close to bringing it home....

Let's see your picture...

possibly look for a 77 Datejust ? might be an easier and less expensive find.

Congrats, I understand the appeal of a BY watch but you made a good choice.
