Rolex Moonphase - Rare don't know what model

I have this rare Rolex from a family member, but I cannot determine what model it is. Maybe you guys can help me determine the model reference. It looks like a reference 6062 or a 7181, but it is different. As you can see from the picture, the numbers are inside the hashmarks on the watch face and I cannot seem to find a watch like this. Usually you see the numbers on the outside of the watch. My family thinks this watch is about 60 years old. Thank you for any help that you can give to this.

Some issues with the dial, for example the minute markers overlapping the numerals...

What does this mean when the minute makers are overlapping the numerals?

Not sure what other pictures you are looking for but I was sent this picture from my uncle. This is the only pic he sent me. The watch is in a safe. I can tell you that the back of the watch is blank.

I wouldnt think it would have come from rolex with such issues as the partial covering of the numerals.
The markers around the second hand at the top right do not extend on to the main dial like the rest do.
Also the 6 o'clock marker on the second hand does not appear to line up with the round gold marker.
The "R" in Rolex is lower than the rest of the letters

Btw
the numbers on the outside of the face that you are referring to are on the bezel of a gmt or dive watch.
the watch you have has numbers on the inside because it has a hand that points to them to show you what day of the month it is.

I am starting to get the feeling like it is not a real Rolex. It has been in our family for 60 years and we have even had the back taken off to show that it is a Rolex. But all the pictures and all the inconsistent markings are leaning towards something that is not real. Anything that anyone can add is helpful in this situation. Thanks for the info guys. Keep it coming.

Not a fake. Simply an 8171 with a refinished dial, aftermarket crown, and aftermarket bracelet.

Really....a 8171? I was told from my uncle, that his uncle had it made personally for him and he chose to have it made this way. So since it is a REAL 8171, what would it be worth more with the unique way he had it made for him? What would the estimate of value on something like this be?

The refinished dial diminishes the value rather than increases the value. It's still worth a significant amount, although it's worth less than an all original example.

Im sorry to hear this. So you guys think that it is real? I am glad to hear that. What do you think that value of something like this could be? What year do you think it is? I was told that it is a late 1940's watch.

It's probably real with a hand painted dial which wasn't that uncommon decades ago

Yes, this watch should date to the late 40's or early 50's depending on the serial number. Unfortunately the dial has been refinished (repainted), which probably reduces value by at least 50% as original dials are near impossible to find.

With the condition that it is in, what do you think it is worth in it's current state?
