5270 question

Hi

List price in the benelux is 139000 Euros (incl tax) and a pre loved, pre owned on chrono 24 is around 100000 Euros. Going to be my first Patek. Am i better off with the pre owned watch .

40000 can buy a lot of Rolexes.

Cheers

That is a big price difference. If you are not an EU resident, you can claim the VAT refund which will make the price difference less. Depending on which country within Benelux you purchase the watch from the VAT will vary. But if you are a EU resident, I don't think the price difference is worth it. You just have to be wary of C24 sellers as some will misrepresent the watch.

Don't pay list, you should be getting a good discount. Then compare that price to the pre owned one.

I prefer new and I want my name on the papers
listprice is imo 133 and not 139
maybe some discount is possible

I don't mind paying a bit more is you want to keep the watch for a longer time.

buying second hand is something I would only consider if the piece is discontinued

I have seen for $120K USD or $55K off for double sealed open papers. Probably can get it for $115-117K as not easy seller.

Of course the above price is not from an AD but from a gray dealer. But not a bad price even from a gray dealer.

The list price varies slightly even within the EU, so I would believe the OP if he was quoted 139000 Euros in the Benelux. However I believe the list price is 133000 in Germany. The price in France may be somewhere in between 133K and 139K.

I did see your post. Just needed clarification if you were quoting first dial or not. I would not a touch the pregnant or Jay Leno dial. What a mess.

They all sell pretty much for same and one can get a hefty discount as this has been snubbed by many Patek die hards and collector's. Perhaps some day that will change but for now it is unloved or under appreciated and therefore deals to be had! I can tell you I had one and it just didn't do it for me. I mean whenever I get my 5970 out to wear it still makes my heart skip a beat. I am mesmerized by the dial, look and feel of it just perfect in every way. I never felt that with the 5270 and bought it only because it was too good fo deal to pass up. Now of course I know and understand why. If a watch doesn't make your heart skip a beat and give you that excitement day one don't do it! Anyway a very long answer and slight diatribe.

Few thousand more yes and blue a bit more than that maybe $5K or so. The first dial sells for least but all pretty close in price with serious discount in secondary market. Happy New Year my friend!

Okay guys, so the problem collectors have with the 5270 is that:

1) It is missing proper chronograph markers (in the first dial),
2) Then they added the chronograph markers in the second dial but also added the chin, which seems like an afterthought,
3) And the dial appears less balanced and more bottom heavy.

Am I missing anything? so these are the reasons that a PP in-house GC Chronograph is selling something like $55K below list?

And possibly it was a touch overpriced to start with compared with the 5970G before it??

Good point. I do like the lugs better on the 5270 though.

I may be in the minority, but I really like all variants of the 5270. Agreed that the chin is not the most inspired design choice and they could have done better, as they did with the 5271. Put that dial on a 5270 and in my eyes it would be perfect (pic from hodinkee).

Also, whilst the chin is not aesthetically pleasing, it does allow the tach to be read accurately between 110 and 130. I can appreciate that.

$176,300 USD was way too high for a white gold version GC (5270), manufacture movement or not. The 5271P (platinum/diamond bezel) is $280k. Based on straight MSRP, Platinum and diamond worth $100k / 59% premium?? not to mention secondary market.... For a 280, with a nice discount on a brand new 5270, you could easily pick up a very nice 3970P as well!!

For those in the know - any predictions whether 2015 will deliver a blue dial 5270 with no chin?

I don't know if I prefer 5970 or 5270, but the 5270 in blue dial is really beautiful IMO so it would have my preference in that color, anyways my brain isn't too troubled by this as both pieces are way out of my price range…
