Trading up for a finer vintage example

I was curious how many TRF members owned a vintage Rolex you liked, but flipped/traded up for a finer example of the exact same piece. Thanks!

Thank you. I don't think you will find many natural chocolate/brown inserts. To the best of my knowledge the black inserts for GMTs were not as prone to fading like the ones for the Subs. Mine has definitely had help to get it to that color but I like how it looks.

Great thread as I was thinking of this just the other day. I think the only way I'd trade up, would be if it were for what I petceived to be a better model. I just purchased my birth year 5513 from 1967, one owner watch. I suppose if a Red came along same year I'd consider doing it

Tom, I think it is a fairly common practice. As we progress/advance through our vintage experience, we are always learning. My first 5513 had over polished/thin crown guards because I did not understand the nuances of desireable cases. Same learning experience with a slightly flawed dial vs a perfect dial.
I have bought and sold multiple 5513s, 16750s and 14060s. Each one was a nicer example that the one it replaced. Sometimes the replacement is not immediate and for me may occur after a few other buys/sells - but yes I am guilty as charged

I have not done it to date, but have considered a change. Not overly keen to let mine go, though.
