Gotta try one on
I'm not a very large guy (6 foot, 195) but I feel even 40MM can sometimes look small (depends on lugs, wrist presence, etc). As has been said above, wrist shape, what you're used to and various other factors other than just wrist circumference all play a role. Go to an AD & try on a bunch. Here's a 44MM on me; most comfortable of all of them.

The only way to know is to try several on in person several times. Fluted bezel presents much larger than the domed fyi.

7-inch wrist and a 36mm 16014 sits perfectly and wears a helluva lot more comfortable than my 40mm BLNR. It's THE perfect size imo

Thank you GTS Dean.
I wore my 36 mm DJ all day at a major client meeting. At home I am wearing a 42 mm watch. Both look great, well, the DJ looks more stunning regardless of size. Enough on this topic. |

I'm actually looking for a 36 mm, black dial DJ right now... something from 80s or 90s to put on a leather strap. What are good ref. #s to get... something very affordable, bang per buck.

Too small, 40-42 perfect size. Rolex ladies are wearing 36mm. 36mm is old school but some guys like smaller watches.

I've been wearing a 36mm DJ for 25 years now and no one has ever said it was too small. My wrist is 7 3/8 inches.

36 is perfect for my wrist. I'm selling my Sub because the DJ feels so much better.

Going against the grain here. I think 36mm i too small for a modern man's watch unless your wrist is very thin (6" and under). Especially if your wrist is 7 - 7.5 - IMO it just looks a bit dainty. That's just my opinion of course.

If you have been wearing that Cartier for a while most watches are going to seem small.
If you wear a 36mm after a week it will seem normal and the Cartier will feel huge and heavy. |

You gotta wear a DJ for a couple of days to realize that it's the perfect size. Also, a 36mm oyster case has traditionally always worn larger than other watches of that size. The long and relatively thick lugs combined with the bracelet endlinks make it a substantial watch. It looks ridiculous on my girlfriend, way oversized. It's a gentleman's watch 100%

I'm 6"4' and wore a 34mm Tudor Oyster Date for a year+
Every time I went back to 40mm they felt ridiculous and I would put the Tudor back on. |

I would like to pass my DJ on to my daughter. Are many women wearing a 36 DJ? The womens DJ's are so small how can they read them?

Dj
For sure, I am seeing women with the men's 36mm, men's 40mm. I have purchased a 36mm datejust for a female family member, she loves it...!

Indeed they are - in fact Rolex specifically markets some 36mm models (and Daytonas) for female customers.

It's been correct for a man for 50 years do you really think we are a different species these days ? Big guys existed then too and they had no complaints. I don't hint it clear the big watch fashion is over with rolexes new day date

+1. 36mm in a dress watch, and even a somewhat dressy sport watch like the DJ is a classic men's size that looks perfectly suitable on practically every size wrist. Some may prefer larger, as in the DJ2, but 36mm is undeniably a classic and is not just for the smaller wristed. A smaller watch on a larger wrist looks better than a larger watch on a small wrist IMO.

40mm is the smallest size I will wear. I did get a 36mm a few years back now and when I opened the box I thought I mistakenly bought a womans watch. I ended up flipping it pretty quick and it didnt get much wrist time. My advice is try any model on first before you buy it to make sure. That way there wont be any surprises.

I tried 36mm and it was simply too small for my wrists. 40mm for the Sub-C is absolutely perfect.

The Submariner is, in my belief, the quintessential timepiece for many. When my mind thinks of the word 'watch,' it is a Submariner I see." |
