Good for you. I'm not quite there yet. But yeah, the 14060 certainly helped as it is a damn near perfect all-rounder.

Heh, thanks for the doing the math. (IIRC, it was about $3700 AUD back then, so in USD might be about right) Nevertheless, well worth it. I've learned that my most expensive watches are the ones I don't wear.

Yes, a companion - I agree. Very cool yours is from 2000 also!

It's so cool to see a few of us getting the same watch for special moments. Thanks for sharing!

Great way to pair your watch with happy memories. Awesome.

Wow, you certainly deserve it more than anyone. Congrats on your retirement. Wear it in good health!

Now look at it from the investment point -

Assuming you spent $3000 initially and today you could sell it here for around $4500. That's a 50% profit

Now if you would have invested $3000 in Dow Jones Industrial Average on Jan 1 2000 you would have about the same today, $4500. (don't forget to subtract out those taxes too)

That's as good as it gets Sam. I agree with Mick (as I usually do). A Rolex is much more than a watch. I can't think of anything else that you can buy and wear for 40 years that looks as good as the day you bought it. You can't even quantify the value because it's been a trusty companion through the ups and downs in life; through the birth of kids and the deaths of loved ones.

Interestingly if you look at the markings on your bezel you'll note your first 15 years are all indicated, then every remaining major anniversary; 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60.
