... Curious George here... I have always wondered .......

about how it feels to own your very first Rolex.

So... if I may ask you all personal questions.
Was it exciting?
Did you buy it for yourself? Or was it given as a gift?
Did you have any pitfalls in the process of purchasing it? Any regrets?
Did you keep it or trade it?

I promised myself years ago to get one, and am poised now to find my first. Hence, just researching and building my anticipation by seeking out your experiences.

Thank you.

Fantastic experience/feeling which has never left since i bought my first 6 years ago at the age of 24. Buy one, you will not regret it - if you do you can always sell it with minimal loss.

They are nice timepieces and I enjoy the ownership, but for me ultimately it is a watch and I treat it as such, some try to put mythical experiences on it. For me it is a fun hobby and a way to buy/sell to move my collection around.

I loved finally owning one, but afterwards the planning and the dreaming of the next one was just as much fun.

I've owned a BLNR for 2 weeks now, my first Rolex. I traded an Omega and a Breitling for it. I still gaze lovingly at the watch when wearing it. The quality of every part is perfect.

I wear an Aqua Terra every day for work and put on the Rolex in the evening.

A big warning though, once you have one you may find you start planing the next one.

Long story... short...

For the first/second time luxury watch buyer?

The experience was a bit overwhelming and stressfull.

Never stop learning.

They say Buy the seller and I wouldn't trust any pawn shop in my area. Same can be said for a few local vest pocket dealers.

I found a trusted dealer on RF and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Also, recommend building a relationship with your local AD.

It pays to be patient and ask a lot of questions and have healthy dose of skepticism.

Yesterday, it was interesting to compare a well used 1680 to it's modern brother.

The AD get a lot of trade in Subs so it will be nice to have a trusted source for both new and used Rolex purchases.

Have to agree on that one but today's Rolex wearer is quite a bit different to those say 30 years ago. Many today don't wear the watch they just wear the brand.

Probably one of the most exciting days in a long time. I left the AD actually feeling a little dizzy having spent so much on a watch. It was something that I'd pined over for decades and even today can't believe that I wear a Rolex. What's even more unbelievable to me is the fact that I've decided on a second one, that is a situation I never saw coming!

My first was back in 1988. Day-Date (36 mm ?). It was very exciting (at the purchase time), a bad idea as payments were needed and it was sent in for regulation 3 times where they were able to get it 15 sec/day. Sold it and bought a Tag hoping that Rolex would become a much better time piece. I still believe that the repair shop did not take the time to find the real reason for the very poor time keeping.

Bought my first for myself (16710 GMT Coke). I regret flipping it for the next watch as I couldn't afford to own two at the time.
The only "pitfall" is actually more of a lesson - I financed it at the time and have since learned that it feels much better to own a watch outright without a lingering payment every month. Now, I only buy a watch when I can pay for it in full.

Tim, that's what happens when you have 35,000+ posts on TRF. This place is good for a Rolex collection, but bad for a bank account.

I bought my first, a SeaDweller in 1992. I was captivated by the brand years earlier. When I picked it up new from the AD, I wore it constantly until I flipped it for a Gmt2C in 2008.

It's the one flip I do regret.

My parents gifted me one for graduating university (age 22). Got to choose whichever model I wanted and went with the BLNR.
Felt weird and exciting at the same time to have something that expensive around your wrist. Thought I was dreaming the first 2 months but then I got used to it.

Recently bought my second Rolex but now with my own money (age 23) - different experience imo since I bought it with my own hard earned money.

Nothing like strapping a shiny new one. Especially, like me, to mark a special moment in life to celebrate a personal milestone.

Make it a special occasion and you'll never regret it.

Always wanted one since seeing one on my dad's wrist. Have been wanting one for as far back as I can remember. Got a used Sub Bluesy for my 32nd birthday. Id like to add a two tone Daytone with a white dial someday also.

They are so good, and thank you for asking. The little one is growing like a weed. Luckily, she looks like her mother.

Was it exciting? Yup! lol. very.
Did you buy it for yourself? Yup. Or was it given as a gift?
Did you have any pitfalls in the process of purchasing it? No pitfalls for the GMT IIc, the TT MOP Daytona was slightly marked although it is used. Any regrets? Yup! Shouldn't have got the TT Daytona. Should have followed my heart and got the TT GMT or even saved more for a YG GMT IIc. Mind you, TT Yachtmaster 2 is awesome!
Did you keep it or trade it? I still got em both but want rid of the Daytona.

I promised myself years ago to get one, and am poised now to find my first. Hence, just researching and building my anticipation by seeking out your experiences. My advice? Try to take your time. This is th hardest advice to follow for me! Choose wisely, take time to research. My GMT makes me smile even now 6 years later. The Daytona does not. I like it but I should be loving it like i do the GMT.

Thank you.
Either way, enjoy it when you get it! And above all else, wear it, enjoy it, you will scratch it, then wear it some more :)
