JJ is correct, wearing the strap with the standard spring pins can put tremendous force on the tiny end of the pin and twist it right out of the hole..

Try this with your NATO.

Hold the watch head in one hand and with a little down pressure in the strap on top of the spring bar, wriggle it back and forth rapidly..

Almost always you will compress the spring and the pin will pop out within seconds..
Are you sure your talking about watches here?

Interesting thread. I have enjoyed Zulu straps on many of my other watches, and have never had a problem with the pins. And my 14060M is a non-SEL bracelet, but it is sooooo comfy! I think it would look great on a black 1 piece Zulu strap so I might have to try it out!

You won't really have a problem as such until there is an unexpected and sudden massive tug on the watch. That's when the pins could give way due to lack of support from the absent SELs.

Don't worry, JJ. I will never go anywhere where I may need a NATO strap. I promise.

Love this thread JJ. I have always likes Nato straps.... I am actually surfin eBay for one for my Citizen Promaster.... I will bear your warning in mind. I'll trial it on my promasters and aqualands first... and see if at any time I would be comfortable putting it on my Sub. :-)

Can anybody out there suggest a good online vendor for a quality Nato/Zulu 'watch belt'?!!??! :-)

You see JJ there seems to be opinion both ways as usual. It was not long ago that you advised me on my post not to put a NATO on the GMT II. I did think that there would be considerable strain on the links, but some photos that were posted of the GMT IIc and the GMT II looked quite good. Considering. I like the idea of the tool watch on the utility strap, and i think it is a fitting strap for the usability.

I worry about the broken SEL's i hear so much about, and though i agree about the stress placed on the pins, i have not heard of anyone LOOSING their watch on a NATO, breaking or springing a pin, maybee, loosing the watch.......not yet.

I think after reading post regarding the straps on here, if i had a slighty more agressive job, or was on the wrenches a litte more, then i would defintly go NATO, but for now, il ope i dont bust a SEL!

sorry J, i am getting more keen on the NATOs by the day!!

Nice Seiko Mikey,

Here's the sort of strap that Eddie can provide. He's fast (Fast Eddie) and very reasonably priced.

What about some extra thick seiko diver pins? Cheap, good quality and have stood up to a couple of years of Surfing and sea kayaking for me. There is NO way I will enter the water without a Zulu.

Dave - how did you get the dial switched out? I just bought an skx007 7s26 and would love to customize it.

What do you recommend?
