Pocket Watch Collectors?

The other thread about high quality vintage pocket watches has me wondering. How many of you have a collection of pocket watches? I have a rather modest collection of them.

Best Regards,

Thomas Carey

Not really a collection. I have the pocket watches my Father and Grandfather used when working on the railroad.

Those look very nice! Do you know anything about them? Are they in working order?

Yeah, Both my Father and Grandfather worked on the railroad all thier lives. These, in many ways, were men that built this country, and took a lot of pride in keeping things "on time".

These watches are capable of timing that would make modern chronometers green with envy. Many kept a log as to the time keeping of their watches and the maintenance history.

I keep them well maintained.

Wow do those ever look well cared for. Very nice pocket watches. You have a lot to be proud of. There is no finer history than the railroads which opened up the West from the East and ensured the spread of America as we know it today. The railroaders were a group of honest and hard working people with good values. These are special to keep in your family and pass down through the generations.

That looks great Mike.

I do not have any but would certainly want atleast one at some point in my life. Obviously not for use just as a keepsake.

Mike, they are fantastic, full of history and heritage. The Ball railroad watches are legendary!

I had quite a few about 10 years ago but lost interest and stupidly sold most of them.

If you look at the side walls of the cabinet you see that there are another 16, mostly 18 size watches hanging there!

I still have a few, one, an 18 size Waltham 17J Adjusted, with a beautiful multi-colored dial, Gold LouisXIV hands, in a near NOS gold filled case, that is absolutely beautiful! (you can't really see much but it's the center watch in the glass dome at the top of the photo.) I'll see if I can take a photo and post it later.

Here are a couple I do have a photos of (just because I was thinking of selling them too!)

Waltham 18S Key Wind and Key Set from 1873

Waltham 16S model 645 21J Lever Set RR Grade in a like NOS Waltham Salesman Display case.

I don't think JJ has any pocket watches and I know he reads all the posts so just for him I included these!
