Hi All!

I just started looking for my first Rolex. My head is spinning from all the options, but I'm hoping this forum will help me in making my decision!

Hi Angela:

Welcome to TRF. This is a great place to cause your head to continue spinning like Linda Blair in the Exorcist or it will stop spinning and you will settle on the watch that smiles back at you as you smile at it. I hope this place provides a lot of learning and friendships for you.

Hi Angela, so what kinds of aspects to a watch do you find interesting? E.g. a date feature, 30mm, 36mm or 40mm case, sports style or dress style etc. etc.?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I had my first visit to a dealer yesterday to check out watches in person. I've also been doing lots of searches on this forum--there's so much great information here--and I'm going blind scrutinizing the different dials on
http://www.oysterworld.de/dials05.htm

At the dealer, the one I liked best was the 177200 midsize (31mm) watch with pink dial and oversized arabic numbers. After checking out oysterworld, I also like the black dial with pink arabic numbers. From my time searching here, I know it's pretty boring compared to some of the watches that folks here have, but i'm a pretty simple gal.

But I need to decide whether I can live without the date feature, which brings me to my question. I'd love some insight as how the model numbers work. For example, on oysterworld, I found another 31mm dial that I like, a blue dial with arabic numbers. The dial is listed in a section that has these numbers: 178159, 178239, 178240, 178246, 178274, 178279, 178286, 178296. I'm pretty sure I would like a stainless steel band with a domed bezel. Is there some way to tell from those model numbers whether that combination exists?

Hi Angela, the best advice I can give you is to simply go to your local AD and try on what they have. Sooner or later you will find the Rolex that speaks to you. It may be something that you didn't think about in the first place. Enjoy the experience and have fun here on the forum. Glad to have you.

Angela, that is getting pretty complicated. The numbers are quite confusing for most people, even me.
The pink dial sounds and looks beautiful.
I'm pretty sure the blue dial that you speak of is available with a date in Stainless Steel.

Welcome to TRF. You are starting to see why you are going to need more than one Rolex!!!

Whatever you decide, enjoy your stay and share pictures once you've selected the one Rolex.
