WARNING...dated and vintage . . . warning
The old "Kojack" has been gathering dust on the garage shelf for many years now and today I thought it was a good time to break it out for a little photo shoot. The old "red ball" brought back some great memories - as many as that old GMT 16750 gracing the foreground. Great memories indeed!!!
Let's see some of your favorite memorabilia with your favorite GMT 16750.

I wish my Red Sub has patina like yours. How can I get this patina?

Alright, it's my nice 1970 7021. Next to my Clint autograph I got from him in Carmel in 1986. That is also mr Gretzky when I saw him on the street in 1987. And a nice Buddha!

Does wearing the watch and hence exposes it to sun "retards" patina development? I know no exact explanation on the development of patina but it seems that the collective is to avoid sunlight.
Is this the generally accepted "advice"? Many thanks in advance. |

Yes, sunlight fades most things. I've had watches with strong patina which had previously been stored away for years, and which have lightened noticeably since wearing them regularly. I prefer to wear them than keep them hidden away.

I think the amount of tritium used in the lume mix is really important. I have a 20th anniversary speedmaster and when i was looking for one to buy i noticed that they all had a really similar patina. They would have all been made around the same time. I got mine from a guy in Australia and it has seen a lot of sun, the insert has faded to grey and the dial a little brown but the lume plots are deep yellow! Compare to a new speedy in the pic

Nice patina on the right - but not what I'd call 'deep yellow' - maybe it's the lighting in the photo. Great watches anyway!

The speedy pic was taken with natural light. I found that pics taken with natural light make the lume look lighter than it is and those taken with a flash make it look darker!
Here is my GMT outside and then inside with the flash on and in keeping with the theme of this post, a pic with my vintage fender telecaster By the way, thanks to people on here for teaching me about what to look for when buying vintage watches. I was able to find this one in nice condition without spending crazy money Last edited by djmusicman; 11 April 2016 at 10:16 PM.. Reason: to add a picture |
