Looks Like Hodinkee is referencing TRF for sales deals!

Was just checking out Hodinkee's "Bring a loupe" which showcases watches for sale all over the net. I was surprised to see they linked to a Grand Seiko sale in our forum!
I hope the hodinkee wave does not drive prices up in our forum which i find as a gem for good deals.

At least it wasn't in the "bidder beware" segment

Do you really think this forum offers good deals? Most sellers who list across multiple forums charge higher prices here...

That seiko is posted on a few sites.

I was inquiring 2 months ago about it but I believe it is a 36mm which is on the small side for me.

I think it is a killer watch with unique style and an uncommon offering from seiko, no date manual wind.

Hodinkee is actually starting to sell watches on their site...

Not that bad of an idea actually...

After developing a relationship with a couple well known sellers I feel that "my pricing" is pretty fair and at least I know it's safe which is worth a few bucks more IMO.

It is 36mm, I agree it's a very interesting dial. Reminds me of vintage GS. Too small for me too.

Yes I have been following , notice how fast they sell out whenever they announce a new batch. Much of their stock will sell same day it is posted, I think they are on to something.

I've bought from most of the sellers and been happy enough with the prices, but that was after negotiating. It's still factually correct that many "trusted sellers" pump up their prices on TRF.

Someone on Reddit called them out for selling a mis-identified Omega. They responded with an iffy answer.

Mistakes happen but this one seems like a pretty bad oversight.
They have so much power of influence these days. Look what they did with universal Geneve, basically tripled their value in a short couple of years. I'm sure they are buying up some obscure brands and getting ready to write them up in the "value proposition"
Vintage bulava will be going for 3k next year

Being stupid is one thing, but I actually have more of an issue with this.

That being said, it was very dumb to go it alone in the vintage watch game. I suspect that an established expert could have been brought in via an equity share of the "Hodinkee" brand.

I believe Hodinkee provides some valuable information to the watch community and consider them an asset to the watch community.

However what once probably started as a hobby has now become a large business for them. As with any blogs that started as a hobby, but grew to become a business, I think it is prudent for blog readers to be careful in checking the facts as the blog articles can easily be biased one way based on who sponsors their website and how they generate revenue, including online watch sales.
