Thoughts on this 1675 that I really like

So as the search continues for either a 1675 or a 16750 I've found another one that looks good and strong and I've been talking to the seller. The price is again high (or higher than what everyone here recommends) but I will try to negotiate. Before I do that, any warning signs? The only things I notice and am unsure about are the minute hands slightly darker tips (very slight) and the condition of the lugs (seller claims they are unpolished). Thought and opinions welcome...

Also, this is supposed to be a 1978 model are the bezel and dial period correct? The bracelet is 7836, while the end links are 358. Also, if you have a realistic (not fantasy) view on what such a piece should cost, please do let me know.

Great case. Looks virgin or lightly hand polished but that is impossible to know unless in your hand. Love the hands. Nice patina. Watch the corners of the dial....that is where oils spots hide. Me likey. Between 7 and 9 I would guess.

Crazy right.....for nice all original gmts.....it is high right now.
My first vintage purchase was a 73 1675 with fat font, unpolished, and full set.....for 9k....which was insane 2 years ago....kinda wish my stock port did as well over the last 2 yrs.

It came on a c&i bracelet which i thought was fake.....also had the how to work your bezel pamphet as well....which i thought was fake and stupid....i guess i got lucky.

I like it too... Im still a new guy on this forum but the insert might be a replacement, the patina on the hands feels a little more aged. That said, its a very nice example and based on my own shopping $7,500 -$9k feels right... Ill be interested to hear what the real experts on the forum have to say about it.

I agree, the insert appears later maybe an 80s insert. It also appears that two of the lugs have been severely over-polished or "machined" toward the bottom of each lug.

Hmm...thanks everyone. I suspected that the insert was a replacement but wasn't sure. I can live with that. The lugs are thick though seem beaten up and polished. The seller says he can have it polished but I'm not sure of that. I will try to negotiate based on these factors to somewhere around 8.5k.

Just a general question, all things being equal is a 16750 priced usually lower than a 1675 or does it not matter?

I am not a GMT expert, but have been hunting/learning from the sidelines for about one year now. Condition and originality are paramount, so a nice matte dial 16750 could very well be priced higher than 1675 with dings/replacement parts/etc. Any original matte dial 16750 in decent condition will be priced higher than a decent white/gold surround 16750 simply due to rarity.

I would expect however, an original 1675 in perfect condition would be priced higher than an original 16750 in perfect condition. Supply and demand.

9k would be all original with thick case. Inserts command a premium and can be hard to find. Replaced inserts and hands with worked over cases are closer to 7k.

Generally looks like a good GMT with nice dial and case. Just the lugs looks abit worn or tampered with?? Also you would need to purchase a period correct fat font faded insert to complete it... Keep us posted. :-)

Very nice GMT 1675, with nice smooth patina. The case is also nice to be so old. Prices have gone up in every vintage Rolex.

Here are some other contenders thrown into the mix. I bit about each:

1 - From 1984 (model 16750). Service date wheel (white) so no open 6 or 9. Asking 9k USD. Is the bezel correct? Seller says it is. I'm turned off by the date wheel colour but otherwise like it.

2 - From vintageconcept. Asking 9.3k but assuming this is list price and can be negotiated. From 1972. Know very little else about this but have asked questions. Date wheel looks ok. Insert I don't know.

3 - Also from 72. Much lower price (8.5k). Can't tell properly but looks like replacement hands? As usual, no idea about insert but seems replacement. Can't tell about date wheel but looks silver but have asked. Very reputed seller.

So which ones would you prefer?
