Whats is the everyones general opinion of the gray market? Has anyone purchased a watch in the gray market? If so, who have you used?

Hello,

I just purchased a watch from The Time Keeper www.preownedrolex.com. Cayce is a great guy, and I love the watch. It came with all paperwork, box etc. The watch is just as good as new, and saved me over $1000 if you count the sales tax I saved. Check out the pics.

Is that a 1000$ under List ? BNIB price, cause thats not that great for a used watch, plus you can almost get a 1000$ off from a AD on a brand new DateJust...IMO

I have bought, sold and traded tons of watches privately and through the Grey market dealers. As long as you do your homework, get references and protect yourself you can save money and also network. Failure to do any of the above could cause you to get scammed out of thousands.

The two cliche's are always right.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Buy the seller not the item.

Purchasing from an AD gives you total peace of mind and security. Always go AD, I say....unless you have a very SOLID source like Daren does!!

Daren, padi and High-Gear's advice is spot-on. I have purchased three marvelous Rolex watches through the grey market, and have been thrilled with the outcome of each of these transactions. I did my homework, and I can recommend it with the stated caveats in mind.

Having used this method, I have determined that I saved enough in the three transactions to get a fourth Rolex (DD) if I so choose.

I saved a total of $1210. I don't know what the ADs are doing where you are from, but they would only go down 5% here, which isn't enough to cover sales tax. The Datejust was priced at $3885 at the AD, and I purchased mine for $2900 to my door. I looked around, and this was the best deal I could get at an AD. The AD's best was $3690. The AD may not have had it priced at "list". I do not know what "list" is for the model I purchased, so maybe I used the wrong term. I got it 1200 cheaper than I could through an AD, and 2900 seemed to be a decent price for a watch which was only a few months old, and had all papers and such. A local jewler wanted $2300 ($2500) + tax for an early 90's watch with no papers or box, and in more used of a condition. Not to mention without the dial or band I wanted. If this wasn't a very good price, please let me know where you are looking, because I sure didn't find em out there. I don't care, I am very happy with the watch!

In your opinion how valuable is the manufacturers warranty if you buy it at an AD compared to the warranty a non AD would give? s it worth the savings?

Also would you consider purchasing a watch from Amazon? I am looking at a partcular Omega and it is $1000 off list or 39% off. Brand new and actually shipped from Amazon and not their 3rd party dealers. They offer a 5 year warranty. Seems good to me and from a trusted source. Anyone have experience buying a watch from Amazon?
