Car is out!
Well, today is traditionally the day the insurance goes back on my car, and it comes out of winter storage. Got the battery hooked up this morning, checked everything out, and fired it up - ran very well after sitting for 6 months.
Took it for a spin, and all seemed fine, so now need to get the new rubber on order and then get the new wheels on. Very much looking forward to having my own car, as the wife and I share in the winter. Today, the FREEDOM begins again for another summer! Last edited by ----; 2 April 2006 at 09:46 AM.. |

I know the feeling Al. I took my motorcycle out for the first time this past week after having it sit in the garage since Oct. Needless to say I was a very happy camper

Were lucky on the west coast. Never cold long enough to worry about storing our cars.
My wifes Z3 is ready 365. We get the odd day in the fall winter , where as soon as it's dry, that top is down NIce looking ride you have there.

Nice Al, congrats and enjoy the freedom.
I got some of my own this a.m. as I got the bike out for the first day in 2006 as I start a season of commuting to work on two wheels. Only 18 minutes to work, which ain't bad... and my trip is completely 'in-law' free. This should do wonders at reducing stress on a twice daily basis! |

Just out of curiosity, Al, why? Does the Beemer not handle well in the snow?

I know my 5'er does not do well in the snow here in Ohio, I need to break down and get a set of dedicated snow tires and rims.
I Love those split 5 spokes, just like the 7 series sport package. I might refresh mt look soon since I've had the BBS types on for 6 years, plus those look easy to wash

Another reason is that in order to make it handle well at all, pure snow tires would be required, and with the 540's they did not allow the steel rims to go on the cars (too much torque available for those I'm told). So you would need 2 sets of alloys - I will actually have that now since I plan to keep the wheels that are on the car now. I've always had another car so I could put the "good" car away for the winter. The only reason we share now is that I don't really want to have 3 cars around - we did that for a couple of years and it was a pain since we have a 2-car garage - one always sitting outside. Maybe some day I'll break down and drive it in the winter - at least then I'd get to use the heated steering wheel a bit more than I do now...... |
