Mythbusters

It's a great show. I know that Adam has been seen with a GMT II. But, the other night I was watching the show and I swear I saw him wear a SS/Plat YM only it had a black dial. Is this possible? Or, more importantly, is it a fake?

My hope is that it is a Rolex, and that he either knows an independent jeweler that replaced the dial for him, or Rolex did it for him (yeah, right)?

I saw that black dial too, but I don't think (judging from the bracelet) that it was a Rolex.

I think Adam has a bunch of different watches and we've discussed this a bit here already. I've seen him wear a black ExpII (it's the only one that counts, ahem!) but he had the center links of the bracelet polished. I've seen him with a sub and a Seiko Orange Monster.

I'm going to email Adam at their site and ask him to debunk the myth of his watches. LOL

One of my friends was recording the show and went back to view all the shots of the watch during the show. He said it is clearly an oyster bracelet. That was the first give away that is was a Rolex. The second this is I am almost 99% positive that the bezel was a standard YM bezel.

I'll be interested in hearing if he sends you an email back, Atomic. (unless you were kidding, of course)

Maybe they could check the myth that Rollies are indestructible.
Could you image all the Rolex fans crying as the destroy a few..
Of course, the normal tests the watches would survive, but they always like to blow things up
Hmmm test the SD to 1000 metre, the Sub's to 300, now were talking.
Do they really oscillate at 28,800??
I would watch ( lol ) that show.

I'm dead serious. I'll email Adam at their website and see if I get a response.

Maybe they could debunk the myth that Rolex says it takes a year to manufacture each watch. LOL

BTW, Rolex has never made a black dialed rolesium YM but that's not to say that it's either an 'hommage' watch, a fake YM or perhaps a redial. Afterall, Adam does have an ExpII with polished center links, so it's not like he's not into modifying his watch. I'll keep you guys posted.

It's interesting to hear about the polished center links on the explorer. After hearing that, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he has changed the dial on the YM.

Hi S7horton
I saw Adam wearing what I thought was a black dialed Yachtmaster a year or so ago. I initially thought it was a fake. Others have suggested that it was a Tudor model, but I can't recall what model it was said to have been.
Evidently, Adam wears a number of watches and it seems he may have an interest in the same.

I don't think there is a black dialed SS YM. I am pretty sure there isn't. But that dude wears Tudor Hydronaught. It looks just like the YM but with the black dial.

Pity that's a replica!! If Rolex decided to make that for real, I think it looks absolutely stunning!

I checked out some pics of the Tudor Hydronaught. Although the bezel is simialar in appearance to the YM bezel, it still isn't the same. I distinctly remember an oyster bracelet with a YM bezel. I thought it looked identical to the replica posted above. WIth the other time pieces Adam already owns, I have a hard time believing he owns a fake, but you just never know I guess.

I'll be interested to see if Atomic gets a response back.

Seth, this dude played golf at my course last summer and was wearing a hydronaught. I am not sure if he had a different one on in the episode but he does wear one. If it looked that similar it could have been a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms too.

Dman, thanks. Maybe I didn't get the view I thought I did of the watch. Have you had a chance to play golf with him personally? I have to be honest, I have no idea what a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is.

JJ - I'm with you, I considered buying one and robbing the dial. I just couldn't do it ...

The one you're referring to Daren is a beauty. But I like this one just a bit more

I don't disagree Paul, but I was referring to it because it looks like the watch from the show Mythbusters.

Okay, I'm convinced. I'll bet that is the one he had on. The triangle up top caught my attention, and that was when I swore it was a YM. Thanks for posting that pic.

I don't know too much about blancpain, but I have heard good things about them.
It is interesting to see the Blancpain has a bracelet similar in style to the oyster bracelet, a dial similar to the Explorer I style, a date....well you could say it doesn't have a cyclops so it is similar in style to the Sea-Dweller, but most strikingly it has the Yacht-Master Bezel. I wonder if the bezel is Platinum?
Anyway, it's good to know that Adam isn't a fake kind of guy and better still to know that he is a watch geek....so the issue (myth) of whether Adam's watch was real or a fake has now been busted!

Blancpain is probably one of the very few Swiss high-end manufacturere to have NEVER produced a quartz watch!!
