Newbie to the forum

I happened to find this forum today and what a site. Im enjoying reading through all the past posts and reading up on the wealth of Rolex info.

One quick question, i just read the post with the Exp II on straps and it looks sharp. This makes me wonnder if anyone has put a GMT on straps. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the nuthouse. The GMTII is as close to an ExpII as you can get so you have great taste. I don't know of anyone here who puts their GMT on a strap, but CJ puts his sub on a NATO strap.

It's a great way to change the look of your watch. I'd recommend the carbon fiber with the red stitching that I have. It really looks amazing and photos don't do it justice.

Again, welcome and post often.

Thanks for the warm welcome all. I have looked into some carbon straps for the GMT, and think I will give it a try. I already have two bezels, black/red and all black. Definitely makes the watch more versitile.

Glad to have you hear, welcome mate!! As for what the other guys said, it is a great change of pace. You have the right idea on the carbon or even a nice calf with contrasting stitch. There are a few resources in the resource page. If you have any questions, just fire away.

Glad to have you here, hope you can stick around and post often.

Welcome to TRF, GMTIIPilot (BTW, that moniker is too long. Got anything shorter we can use, like a first name?). Glad you found our friendly little madhouse. Jump right in and keep on posting. But whatever you do, stay away from our resident BKL (Bald Kiwi Loon). He goes by the initials JJ, and he is certified. He is also a nutcase - but we love him anyway.

As for changing the look of the GMT, sorry but I can't abide that. When it comes to that watch, I am a purist. It must be all black on the SS bracelet - or nothing. But then that's just my hangup. So if you do change to a strap, post some pics so we can comment.

I got the carbon fiber with the red stitching at www.watchprince.com and if I recall I paid US$40 for it (or so, plus shipping).

But if you followed the link Daren, my shorter, uglier Hawaiian friend posted, you know that already.

I do agree that the watch looks best on the braclet. Im just trying out diffrent looks. And, since this is my only Rolex and a daily wearer, I thought that by putting a strap on occasioanlly would reduce the bracelet stretch over the long haul. BTW, you would think stainless steel wouldnt stretch. Is it just the pins in between.

Pete, my ExpII is my only Rolex and I started putting it on a strap for variety and to a lesser degree to put less wear and tear on the braclet. The stretching is actually caused by the buildup of dirt on the braclet pins. The links themselves don't get stretched.

Interesting, does that mean if the bracelet is kept clean the srtretch should be at a minimum?

Also, CJ, thanks for posting the link. The watch looks great on a strap. Im gonna go for it and post pics. when its all together.

Yep, keep the bracelet clean and you'll minimize wear on the pins and limit stretch. Use shampoo and a soft (used) toothbruch every so often.

For cleaning the bracelet, has anyone used Simple Green?
It's supposed to be "safe". I tried it on my Airking, seems fine.
I put it in a glass, sprayed about 4 shots of SG, then filled with warm water. You should see the junk that falls out.

John...that is shocking!!

What I fail to understand is how can anyone let their watch reach a stage where things actually start to turn green and so damn gunky that one has to resort to chemicals to remove all that sh!t!! A weekly wash with plain ole' soap, water and a toothbrush should do the trick and keep your watches in pristine condition at all times!!

You should try the same. With the exception of your teeth, which come out at night and go in a glass on the dresser, You could probably use some plain ole' soap and water once a week

No, no, Paulie. It's not time for JJ's annual bath for another two months. He usually does it at the mid-year point, whether he needs it or not.

That makes sense. He must be pretty ripe by now, seeing that summer has come to an end
