For those who don't ever polish their Rolex, how old is it and how does it look?

Personally I like my modern watches to look new and my vintage to look worn but well cared for, so...

1) If it's an old and collectible reference, be careful with polishing or avoid.

2) Anything modern just polish and go - they are never likely to be as collectible and rare with the millions Rolex are knocking out today.

Of course IMHO and YMMV.

Great reasoning!

I've had this Y-series GMT-II for about 15 years. It's my favorite watch. Wear it about 90% of the time. Looks as good today as when I first took it out of the box. Never been serviced or polished. If or when it stops working properly, I'll have it serviced. Polished? Maybe.

One thing I truly enjoy about watches are the crisp, geometric lines that run through the case. You lose a bit of that when a watch gets polished.

My 29-year old Datejust, never polished:

My 8-year old 14060m with unmolested chamfers:

A 10-year old 16570 I used to own:

I have a 1680/8 Sub which I bought new in early 1974 and have worn probably 95% of the time since then. It has never been polished (head or bracelet) and will never be, unless, of course, my heirs choose to do so.

Here's a 116710BLNR which is nearly 3 years old from new. Worn frequently with half the time being under cuffs, but these days the 7016/0 Marine Nationale gets more wrist time.

My Sea-Dweller, born in 1991. Purchased new by me in '94. I wanted a Sub but the dealer had recieved a SD instead. Best mistake I've ever had happen.

Shes been worked hard for many years. Shes survived countless hours under water. 2 year tour as 1st Mate on a riverboat. 2 wives, countless girlfriends and has seen some tales that can't be told until some people have long left this planet.
She was there when I dropped dead. (Don't worry, I was brought back)

Serviced once by Rolex. That was only polish shes seen.
And by the way, she was only piece of equipment to survive the riverboat unscathed. Boots, clothes, tools and watches seem to have a short lifespan on the water.

Now shes on leather and is still a daily wear. Shes aged better than me!

It will loose value if he cleans it. I do not recommend cleaning your watch. Food and oil stains add value. LOL...

Bought new in 1998. Serviced once and I had them clearly state on the work order to not polish. I think I reminded the poor lady about three times and did a follow up call later to confirm.

The crenelations on that bezel do look awful "soft".

I prefer an original finish. It is only original once. If the watch has damage from tools improperly used to remove bracelets or links I will have that professionally polished out.

This is the clasp after three years almost daily use.
I wear it during work, DIY, garden work, sleeping etc

The bezel has almost no visible scratching and the glass is still perfect.

Looks uncomfortable, but looks are deceiving:) It is quite comfortable and leaves almost no "compression" marks on the skin and I come with a very good insulation, which I'm trying to loose as it is not healthy in the long run....

If I keep it looser, it will rotate towards the desk as I'm working or it will slip down and start rotating. Both are not comfortable.
