Case Sizes
Can anyone sum up the reason's for increasing case size. Is it to do with function..?
I just have this feeling that in 5 years time we'll be looking at 40mm+ cases in the same way as we look at the Mid size 34mm DJ now. |

Trends, for better or worse. Many people won't even consider sports watches that are < 40MM (I'm guilty of this myself), and I think most watch companies realize that. I think in five to ten years we'll still be doing ok with 40MM unless Rolex releases a slew of 43MM models. 40 will probably be considered closer to small than large, but still 'wearable.'

We all remember the silly case sizes from the late 70's but they were to house the movements. Just seems that there will be alot of packing between the movement and the case. Something not really associated with quality.

Nothing to do with functions just purely fashion.

Just a passing fad.
If the watch was designed to dive with it needs to be bigger to enhance visibility. If the watch was NOT made to dive with, making it bigger is done to add to its bling factor. |
