Ebay now offers full Paypal protection for buyers

Ebay now offers full, 100% Paypal protection for items never received or items that are significantly different as described. This includes shipping costs also.

The following is from a message I received from ebay:

Eligible transactions are covered
PayPal protects you when you don't receive an eBay item you've bought, or if an item you've received is significantly different than it was described.
To qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection, you must meet all of these requirements:
Use PayPal to purchase an eligible item on eBay.

Pay for the full amount of the item with one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments - like a deposit followed by a final payment - are not eligible.

Send the payment to the seller through:

The eBay "Pay Now" button, or

The eBay invoice, or

The "Send Money" tab on your PayPal account overview page by selecting "Pay for eBay Items" and entering your eBay User ID and the eBay item number.

Open a Dispute within 45 days of the date you sent the payment - then follow the online dispute resolution process.

This is a nice bit of reassurance for the buyer. PayPal has seemed like it was stacked against the buyer's and seller's for quite awhile. It seemed like it was designed for making more money for E-Bay. This is a decent position to take giving some peace of mind over transactions. Way to go.

Err buddy Springer...that would be a good news indeed.

But how do buyers get such protection...what would be the cost?
Does the cover comes automatically from any listings...?

Anyone experience it before?

Orchi, I assume it is automatic, didn't see anything indicating otherwise as posted in the paramenters from my first post in this thread.

so what happens when for example you are the seller and the buyer(the person) that you send the watch to scams you - what i mean is that he tells ebay and or paypal that the watch that he received, which you the seller sent him was not there or a fake...EVEN IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU sent an authentic watch.... will ebay/paypal hold the money from the seller.. this is scary for sellers as some people will eventually do this.... opinions please ?!?!?!!?!

ebay still sucks when it comes to items that can be faked easily. No thanks for high dollar watches on ebay for me.

As a seller, Ebay has started pissing me off lately, especially with their new policy regarding shipping costs. Everything I do is now sent dirt cheap because Ebay wants their cut of it.

also I have been infomed by paypal that sellers are now covered even if shipping to unconfirmed addresses ( most addresses outside the UK USA and Canada are unconfirmed)

From what I have heard, in a dispute, paypal usually finds in favor of the buyer. Although I haven't sold anything on ebay for several years, I've heard of many buyers scamming sellers and the seller usually ends up eating it. I don't have the answer. There are way too many scamers and scams out there that can be perpetrated by a buyer and a seller that I've removed myself from it as much as I could.

There is no simple solution or answer to your question James, except to totally quit selling or buying on ebay, which many people have done.

Before if you shipped to an unconfirmed address, rather than a paypal confirmed address, then the buyer could claim the item never arrived ( because the address was not confirmed) and get the item and a refund. But now that is not possible.

Overall i am still not confident with paypal and will wait to see how the new measures work before further comment

john and toph, i guess both of you are correct...

imo, both buyers and sellers on ebay/paypal have the chance to scam one another because of this paypal thing... i guess its just who complains first if, given that both buyer and seller is a scammer.... hahhahah

But sellers previously used to usually always lose. Thats why i am fine to pay with paypal but will not usually accept paypal for large sums of $$$ unless the buyer has a good history of buying expensive watches.- i wouldlrather talk to the buyer on the phone or even meet and arrange a different method- usually works

there are loopholes around most protections they offer.the scammers spend their days and nights trying the system to determine the weakness and therefore are usually a step ahead of the average person when it comes to the ins and outs of these systems.

Err buddies...what happens when the Seller refuses to accept Paypal...
n it's stated clearly so in his listings...would eBay allow for that now?

Orchi only sells own Rolex watches...to fund for new purchases from
eBay n elsewhere by wire transfer only...n Orchi cannot accept Paypal...

In Malaysia...so far as Orchi knows...Paypal credits to Seller's
credit card accounts only.

But the Credit Card issuing banks do not pay out the credit in cash...
The credit can only be used to make other purchases via Paypal...in eBay or
other online markets.

That sucks...

thanks! i remain sceptical as others have indicated here, but it's a start. meantime, the aggravation in making a claim and getting paid, is a major disincentive to dealing on ebay, or online in many many transactions.
