Icon5 Trade in a 5711A and a 5980A for a 5740G: Yes or No?

A side from a few Grandes Complications (all Chronos) I have currently the following rather sporty pieces in my collection: 5711A (blue), 5980A (blue), 5650G and a 116500 (black) as my beach watch.
Since Baselworld I’m thinking about if I should trade in my 5711a (blue dial) and my 5980a (blue dial) for a new 5740G or just adding a 5740G.
Until now I never sold any Patek but now I hesitate because I want to prevent that my collection grows infinitely. 10-12 pieces are my limits and more than enough as every piece I own should be worn regularly…

That's a question I too am asking myself.
Should I limit the number of pieces of my PP collections or should I trade in?
The problem is accentuated with PP coming out new and nice models each year.
For me, this year is 5740g and 5270p. What about next year?

The 5740 would sit more in the GC side of your collection, rather than the sporty side, so I would keep the 5980 and 5711, which are both classics.

Pair of the 5740G and the 5370P would make a killer duo. Lol. Argue with that.

All kidding aside, would love to see some live shots of the 5740G

i probably would. You are giving up a lot but there is something to be said for a PC Nautilus and in WG.

IMO you are splitting the difference as far as versatility. The 5711 sits firmly on the dressier side and the 5980 is firmly a sporty looking piece. The PC is in the middle.

I think he’s getting the 5740 regardless of whether he keeps the 5711 and 5980.

Personally for me I’d flip at least one to add the 5740, I’d say the 5711 would play a similar role in my collection, more on the dressy side, I think a 5740 + 5980 is a great nautilus lineup.

Thanks for all your replies.

Quite surprised that the votes on this poll don't follow more the motto 'the more, the better'...

With the recent development of 5711 and 5980 prices on the secondary market, it would probably be smart to add the 5740 first and take a decision about the 5711 and 5980 at a later time...

I'd sell those two for the PC, will make the PC more special and not just another blue Nautilus.

I’m considering selling my blue 5711a and picking up the 5740g. Tougher call on the 5980...keep it if you can swing it

If there’s no need to sell, keep them. Adding to the collection is always a better approach if you’re considering to let go, hard to replace pieces.

I wouldn't replace a discontinued piece with a current production piece, unless I have gotten so jaded with the 5980 that selling it will bring relief to me.

I will add the 5740 to the collection instead.

Keep the 5980 and definitely add the 5740. I am going thru this process but not with the 5711. There is no way I will trade my 5980 1R.

Too bad there is not a 5740A. Might trade for that.

That’s a tough one for me. The 5980 -is my absolute favorite Nautilus — but for that complication I probably would.

It’s everything you could ever want in a Nautilus.

Im not sure i would do it.

Flipping one now for sure makes sense, considering the current bubble (at least this is what i believe to be).

Given the i would flip the 5711 and keep the 5980

This, I would say add the 40 then decide which watches to go later. For me, emotionally letting the 11 and 80 go is a very hard decision.
