Been off a bit, dealing w/ a fire related to one of my favorite subjects: Ian Fleming.

But this really hit me, the "ugly," "meanest pig in the pile," "control issues" statement. Yeah, I think so.

Guys (and gals), I gotta tell you: I don't own any of the Daytona models I see here, and I'm probably not the type of person who could, due to my lifestyle and thinking I'd be too rough on it or get it wet. But I see your signatures and Posts sometimes, as they overlap where I happen to be, and I think they are beautiful. I admire what they do. I'm fascinated w/ why you collect them and how you use them.

Conversely, on too many of the James Bond Forums, the rule (as opposed to exception) seems to be anger fueled by envy. I've often said I really don't get why Omega invests in 007, because to go to those Forums, the market certainly isn't there! Maybe it's among us WIS, who like James Bond second. Heck, for all I know, I'm in that category.

But anyway, these folks can't participate in a Thread or even leave a Thread alone w/out needing to weigh in w/ their "I can't believe someone would be so stupid to spend that much" or advocacy of fakes. Have you ever wondered why I don't reference James Bond Forums here? Because it would violate the rules, given what they promote!

Like I've said elsewhere, there I things that don't strike me so well. Books written after Ian Fleming passed away hold little interest for me. Fine that they do for others. But I don't feel the need to bash.

Also feels to me like there is often "the resident expert" on watches in a Forum. Or maybe a couple of guys, accompanied by groupies. So you look at some crazy cliche or a quote you've seen a hundred times but never substantiated, and you try to address that. And they freak out. So it's clearly not about information; it's more of a cult. And a cult of personality.

I guess some might regard me along those lines in the Forum where I mostly Post. But I avoid this way, because it's just not fun.

Finally, there are folks who feel, I guess, so insecure about their watches that they have to get mad at facts. They've invested in a vintage piece that I guess they must hate, because if it turned out not to be the exact model that such-and-so Bond actor wore in whatever film, they'd just die. Why? I wore my 2254.50 for a long time: It was never a Bond watch, never gonna be, and I had the 2531.80, liked the 2254.50 better; so, that was that.

Thanks for listening.

PS: Did we agree to call this the basement? Or did attic win? Or was it barn?

Could somebody catch me up on that?

So you did. Someone once accused me of being smart, but it turned out he was pointing to the guy behind me.
