The local AD had one of these in and i have to admit, it almost ticks every box, except the manual wind, so does anyone have or had one of these, what are they like, also looking at the 240, but this time it has the automatic movement but no sandwich dial?

Also, how easy is it to get a deployant for the 44mm, i've got about 3 of them for the 40mm but never really looked at how easy it is to get hold of them?

Hey Ryan - I have a 177 and I love it. The Titanium is a realy nice look - the dial is simple with the second hand which I do like except it is non hacking. That kind of bugs. But, all in all - I love it very much.

I get tons of compliements on it too. Mind me asking how much they are asking for it now? I bought mine in 2004.

I have one and it is my only Panerai.

It does wear really well on the wrist.
As mentioned it doesn't have a hacking feature, and given that the watch is COSC tested that is a bit of a let down. You can't hold the second hand stationary either by putting back pressure on the crown.

O.K. now the good points.
It is definitely a stealth watch in looks and material (titanium).
It works well on a light and dark coloured straps.
The display back makes for some great eye candy for the enthusiast.
44mm is the best all round size for a Panerai (except maybe the fiddy, but they cost too much).
The sandwich dial provides a great 3D dial appearance and good lume.
You can wear it with a deployant clasp, but I prefer tang.
I have found it to be very scratch resistant.
The hands and dial compliment each other very well just like Rolex and mercedes hands.
The watch doesn't feel too heavy or too light, it's just right.

Hmm, i just don't know, when do Panerai release their next lot of models, i might have to hunt out a 240 just for a comparison.

Now that is a perfect summary of the 177... I LOVE it. I had not seen it on a light strap... Oh, boy, must have light strap.... Thanks Steve!
