Which Explorer 214270 is looking more classic

The one with white gold 3,6,9 or the luminous 3,6,9.

They both look great to me. I have the full lume and I prefer it. Both are amazing watches and you can't go wrong with either.

Full lume, Rolex changed the hands and are more in keeping with the size of the watch compared to the first version.

Another vote for the full lume; looks modern and still true to its classic roots.

I think the full lume is closer to the 1016. The white gold one is closer to the black out explorer. Both classics, comes down to personal preference.

Neither of them are the “classic” size, so just get the one you prefer.

The Mark 1 is quirky. The Mark 2 is classic. I've said before, and I'll say it again: if Rolex had put out the full lume dial and properly proportioned hands in 2010, we wouldn't be having this discussion, because that would still be the available version today. Purists might still have complained about the case size, but nobody would have been complaining that the hands or numerals were wrong and needed to be corrected.

I had the mk1 and am ashamed to admit I allowed the forum chatter about the hands to get inside my head. I don't think I even knew there were 2 versions when I bought it. I couldn't unsee the "flaw" and eventually flipped it for a black Milgauss.

A year later the Milgauss is off to a new home and I have a mk2 Explorer that I wear more than anything else I own.

I loved the Milgauss, just not quite as much as the Explorer due to it's unmatched versatility.

The perfect Explorer I for me would be a mk1 with mk2 hands.

I think I'm over the T-rex hands thing so I'd be happy with either version today. 39mm is a good size for me so I never even considered the 36mm 114270.

I had the white gold version, but I prefer the lume dial.

Full lume. Easier to read in sunlight compared with polished white gold.
