[QUOTE=padi56;9036525]Just read down the text in the picture below.

Very interesting, hadn't noticed that before. I'm guessing that would also explain the difference in the date window. The edge of the LVC date window has a very defined bevel to it, whereas the edge of the LN date window is a smooth contour.

The LN date window appears contoured due to the black paint. It would have a standard chamfer if the brass dial was stripped bare.

I see, thanks for the clarification. It does provide a nice contoured effect.

Interesting. Are most Rolex dials just painted? I remember seeing somewhere the Blue Z Milgauss dial was made out of something different. Just paint?

Of course I can’t find it now, but my 116660 Deepsea D-Blue has white gold hands and circle markers, but the tiny lines depicting the minutes are platinum. So the watch case and band are 904, the back is Titanium, the hands and circle markers are white gold, and tiny markers platinum.

I’ll post the Rolex detail if I can find it.

They are just Platinum coated very similar to a PVD coating microns thick and can rub off with wear.

The dial material is plain brass.

Thanks Peter, but the minute markers are under the crystal, so can’t really be rubbed off. But the PVD makes sense.

Do rhodium dials ACTUALLY contain rhodium?

Peter was referencing the markers and numerals engraved on the ceramic bezels.

Mhhh, I thought you might have been, but I had no idea the ceramic Bezel also contained platinum.

The number scale is platinum powder. (On YG watches, the numbers are gold powder. The ceramic itself does not contain platinum, as far as I know.

Correct, only the engraved numerals and indices are PVD’d. YG for the bezels needing yellow numerals, Pt for the silvery ones.
