Patek 5120 - automatic, hobnail bezel, hour/minute hands only, 35mm
Patek 5196 - manual wind, seconds hand at 6 o'clock position, 37mm
Patek 5296 - automatic, 3 hand, date window, 38mm
Patek 5227 - automatic, 3 hand, date window, officer's caseback, 39mm

I personally own the 5227G and the 5196P, but I wouldn't hesistate in recommending any of the other Calatravas.
And why not recommend the 5153?

I ended up with a FP Journe CB because it's more flexible in my mind but between the choices you listed, I'd go with the VC. To me it's the best looking, period. Plus, in the preowned market, I think it's a good buy also.

Breguet 7877, this time with enamel dial

Pics off the web, with thanks.
Those Breguet s are stunning watches. Enamel dial is special.
OP can’t go wrong with Breguet but buy used. Resale drops like a stone.

ALS is something else. You didn’t list FPJ, so ALS has my vote.

I would say go with the Breguet or a Lange Saxonia thin 37mm. The lange is a great deal for 15k and you still get a beautiful movement finished to the level of their high end pieces. I wouldn’t go for the Calatrava as Patek does much less quality finishing on their entry level than their higher end pieces. Lange however, finishes all their main models to the same degree. The Breguet would also be a great choice, but I would try to also look into the guilloche models. The guilloche is amazing.

Would vote VC for pure financial reasons--the resell price of some models is not strong and you can pick up a Patrimony for around $13K easy. Other than that, all your choices are spot on.

Regarding dress watches--I have not seen a three hand model that looked out of the place with a polo or a casual shirt. Don't believe that you must wear a suit to pull off any of the models mentioned in this thread. Even the two hand Lange Saxonia can be dressed down. Of course, you would not work on a boat wearing one these watches, but that's not their point.

1815 nice too but the Sax is worthy of consideration given the price point and no sacrifice on quality

For the money, this one can't be beaten.

nomos lambda 39. you can get for $12k grey, and might be the best piece at that price for a simple dress watch that has a smidge of character. there's a reason it comes with a loupe! don't dismiss it out of hand. happy hunting
