Help with vintage Rolex
Hi, I have a vintage Rolex which is in need of repair. I'm trying to find out more information about it. I've not found a similar model any where so was hoping someone may be able to help. I have attached some images. It appears to be hallmarked 9 CT gold with the assay mark indicating either Long 1914 or Birmingham 1918. I have assumed that the serial number is 599119 which I understand would date it at 1947, I'm therefore a tad confused. It is stamped with W&D in a cartouche which I understand stands for Wilsdorf and Davis, but I believe this makers mark was only used until the 1920s.
I'd appreciate any information or assistance you can provide. IMG_20190125_121729-937x1250.jpg IMG_20190125_121621-937x1250.jpg IMG_20190125_235714-937x1250.jpg |

Rolex movements were used in dozens of different case-makers and vendors.
An older ladies watch, such as this, will not conform to the Internet charts used for dating later men's standard models. A watchmaker would repair or seek parts based on the movement type, not the watch model.

Post in the vintage section. You will get great help there. If original, that is a very, very early W/D piece. I would say pre 1920.

The serial number charts you are looking at are for oyster cases, and do not apply to this watch.
Your assay mark is the best way to date this watch. So, I would say it is from the teens. I believe they used London hallmarks which would mean it was made in 1915. They stopped using W & D signature in 1920. Last edited by MILGAUSS88; 31 January 2019 at 12:48 PM.. Reason: ... |
