Help on 5513 "flaws"
Hi everyone!
I am new to the vintage world, and have quite specific questions on a 5513 transitional model from 1987 I am looking to acquire. Haven't find the answer yet so I come to the best I know that for "collector value", this model is one of the less sought after 5513, but I found this model from a very well-known seller, which has original box and papers (1987 being my birth year.. not a good reason for buying vintage I know...), no service history, original bracelet in great condition, works great, and has a superb spider dial (more like small dots on the dial more than spider). Really like it. Thing is... it's 14k$, which seems expensive for this model, and here are my real concerns: - Lume on the indexes is not uniform... at all. Each index has a nice tan, but with whiter spots within, most of the time in the center. It is a flaw according to me, but do you know what could cause this? Would you avoid such a watch? The seller wouldn't have a straight answer on this - the only thing non-original in the watch is the bezel pip.... it is full white/newer and doesn't match hands and indexes. This, I don't really care, but does it kill the watch value? Wouldn't like to overpay this too much... I try to put a picture of the white spots next Thanks all! |

Sounds like 4-5k nowhere close to 14k

Hi and thanks for your answers !
I don't care to pay a little extra, it's a well established boutique, good advice, and it's normal for them to earn their pay. 1665fan, 4-5k seems low for box/original papers/no service, no ? Here are some photos. I also saw it in person. Really great but for the white spots on the lume (on the photos, it's not like it is a flash, it really is like this in person). There is another one, no box, no papers, don't know if serviced, 10.5k USD, lume is less tanned but like it also... I'll keep looking, many thanks guys for your help ;-) EDIT: I'm new and the forum don't let me post links before 10 posts..... that's a shame :-( I'll post a few more messages tomorrow and post the link for your advice on the white spots, it's very interesting reading you guys |

UK prices for a late gloss dial 5513 with the dial in undamaged condition full set would be £7k perhaps a bit above that. With a possible service bezel insert if a luminova pearl and a dial with damage to a lesser or greater extent should cost less...............there are enough of these around to be choosy so look at others. Post photo's of this or other possibles when you are able and good luck with the hunt.
