To throw a spanner into the mix, I'm thinking Breitlings look a whole lot more interesting this year, especially the 806 1959 re-issue

Not sure Omega is laughing at Rolex, but I do love my SMP!

Well said! Omega goes to sleep and dreams about being Rolex.

They can laugh when they overtake Rolex in sales.

Are you sure it's not the other way around. Omega brings "fancy" new models and probably gets the same reception as the previous years...
Rolex makes little tweaks and spits out stuff we don't want yet their older models will now be selling quicker and more than ever... meanwhile their "new" lineup picks off the individuals who just wants a Rolex or those who want to say they have the newest thing. Pretty ingenious. Does nothing, yet increases value and demand on their watches. Props to Rolex. |

Lol Omega is not laughing and I'm sure Rolex isn't worried at all. If anything Omega is worried about Tudor.
Doesn't mean I'm happy about it, and the approach. But Rolex compared to this year's Omega releases will not be out of date next year anyway, so what's the point with Omega and so many updates. |

So your average guy decides to buy a watch to celebrate something. He walks into Rolex store "I'd like to buy a chronograph or a GMT please".
"Yes sir we have these in precious metal or you can wait ten years for one in steel" Man laughs assuming it's a joke as the GMT is on the cover of the catalogue and in lots of advertising. After being told this is not a joke he leaves. Next door in omega.... |

The problem is, the WIS are a small minority among Rolex's existing and potential customers. For the broader consumer base that wants Rolexes, they can still walk in an AD and get a nice YM, DJ, DD or OP in various configurations. To them, it's the Rolex crown that matters, not the specs. |

Ha! I highly doubt it. Rolex is becoming a joke. I get it, you're clearly a fan boy judging by your signature, but try opening your eyes to something else.
Omega is turning things around, while Rolex seems to enjoy pissing on your head and telling you it's raining. |

Honestly, I'm not so sure Omega has been knocking it out of the park either. Omega has two main watches (for argument's sake): the Speedmaster and the Seamaster. The Speedmaster occasionally get an interesting release, but Omega has certainly overdone with a lot of forgettable variations. Honestly, the most interesting variations that Omega has done with the Speedmaster all come from the Hodinkee collaboration. The "Speedy Tuesday" and most recent "Anniversary" releases are excellent re-imaginings. Otherwise, not so much.
The Seamaster has felt lost for some time. It is not a threat to the Submariner in any way and other than adding a ceramic bezel or adding waves on the dial, hasn't really changed a whole lot. That's not to say it isn't a good looking watch. The vintage inspired Seamasters are interesting, but what buyers really want is something more similar to the sword-handed WatchCo Seamaster 300. Omega has yet to deliver on that. |

I actually quite like the 50th anniversary Speedmaster in Gold and the provenance is way better than the TT Sea-Dweller monstrosity that Rolex decided to give us today. Omega is a great brand, as is Rolex and many others. There is no reason to be a fanboy and hate on any one brand, we can enjoy all brands and watches.

As far as IWC, their Spitfire releases are decent looking (everyone is doing the drab green dial). It was an interesting choice to call this collection the Spitfire Collection considering IWC has typically reserved its silver dials for Spitfire models. Perhaps, they are pivoting the aesthetic of the line.
The only problem with IWC is outside of the Pilot and Portuguese references, IWC still lacks depth. Sure the Portofino is beautiful and there are some great Aquatimer releases in years past, but neither line makes a statement the way the Pilot line does. To credit IWC, they know what they are good at and hypermasculine pilot's watches will always be their forte, but I think they need broader appeal. |

Absurd statement and comparison. Omega is the aspirational brand. Rolex is the aspiration.

I've opened my eyes, and actually own several Omega's. Nice watches, but not the same as a sports Rolex. Never have, never will be and always trying to play catch up to you know who. Love your comment, "Rolex becoming a joke". Yeah......if you say so..... |
