I finally realized the full power of the Explorer 2

Tonight I was watching Expedition Unknown and Josh was crawling around in the sand uncovering Egyptian tombs. Josh usually wears a Breitling Emergency but recently I swear he is sporting an IWC pilot. Anyway, back to the story. So, I have always known the steel bezel was great because it won’t crack like ceramic when hit, and it could certainly be hit at anytime doing what he does. Then, the epiphany came - the dirt and sand. The would entirely lock up a GMT or sub, etc. The old aluminum bezels could be popped punt and cleaned easily but the new ceramic cannot, which makes the explorer even more valuable in these situations.

Yes, I know, it is meant for exploring, hence the name. Actually seeing someone use it as intended is a real eye opener.

Now, maybe Rolex can send him one so he gets that other brand off his wrist. Millions of people will finally get it, like I do now.

Right, but the fixed bezels ding and scratch easily, and are nowhere near as replaceable as the aluminum inserts.

Explorer II pound for pound, to me, it's the best value Rolex one can buy. That's why I bought mine 33 years ago.

Wearing and enjoying my explorer II as I read your post. I never really understand the concerns around the bezel scratching... ok, it gets scratches and dings just like the rest of the watch and will get corrected during the next service interval, no sweat. I really hope they never change the bezel to ceramic.
