The downside of Rolex and AP..???

This might be a shocking title for most of you guys

I live in a city that seriously every ''not so smart looking'' person rocks a Rolex or otherwise a AP... It is such a hype over here that i guess 3 or 4 on 10 wears a Submariner, GMT , dj, YM or AP-ro here...… Like i said, most of these guys are certainly not interessed in the actual ''brands'' watch history and in watches but are wearing them withh just 1 intention: Showing off.. I really really feel ashamed when i see this kind of guys walking but in this city the problem is so severe that literally everywhere you look you see them Can you imagine? Rolex claims scarcity on these models and every passant wears a Sub or GMT?? I don't know if they are all fake offcourse but i don't think so…

Does this bothers you? It certainly bothers me to a high degree.. The only watches i have noticed very very very little in public and just on the airports are 2 times a Explorer 2 and Exp.1 new AK and the PM kind of stuff

Now this might be because this models are less Obvious because of the lack of turning bezel etc.. A Pepsi GMT is also not to common yet.. Old and new ones but LN, BLNR, LV, Sub LN YM are really considered ''to common''
It also really frustrates to see that in 9 of 10 cases the wearer is really a ''not so smart'' one that looks like he spends his last few bucks on a Rolex or AP Just to feel ''cool'' and fashion approved. I rarely see a person that i suspect of good education wearing one.. Not that i am educated but you get my point.

You may not like my answer, but I say who cares what others are wearing and who they are or are not? Enjoy the watch on your wrist and what it means to you.

Or maybe it’s time to relocate

that last part

Probably Casio
After a day in the city i Always feel like: Whatever, i wear them for myself and i have my own ''hobby'' with them but when you are surrounded by Rolex and AP wearers everywhere you go it just feels a bit ridiculous.. Like you wear a watch to be ''in fashion'' and i certainly have NOTHING with fashion

Its simply a sign of the times and the impact of social media on many people's buying decisions

Your non-WIS neither knows nor cares what an AP is.

I’ve never seen an AP in the wild.

My goodness. That sounds very interesting.

True, they all found out by now that a AP and even some guys PP cost ''EVEN MORE MONEY'' so they all want to show to the public that they are ''the man'' now with one Unbelievable how crazy this hype has gone in the recent years………………. Now i certainly believe this is ''a bubble''

If this really distresses you, God bless you. You are incredibly fortunate to be in a position that something so trivial bothers you. You should be happy about this.

The downside of Rolex and AP..???

Doesn't bother me at all

Appearances can be deceiving. I don't think you can judge a person's appearance to see whether they are WIS-deserving people worthy of a Rolex or AP on their wrist

Someone could be thinking the same of you perhaps ?

One can only guess just as you did in OP, what those dumb uneducated peasant masses wearing Rolex or AP think to a high degree about you when they walk by.

The downside being there is always 2 sides of a coin!

Wow! 30-40% of Amsterdam residents are sporting a luxury watch? Socialism at its finest.

I absolutely agree, i am the last person that looks smart but at least i have a lot of selfspot.. These guys are obviously from the type of guy that would wear a golden bowel round their neck if it was known for its price label... I understand what you all mean, but i do not mean this very wrong.. We have a very special specimen of ''person'' in my country that you would probably not understand when you havent grown up here but you can look in the dutch celebrities to get quite a clear image of how they might look and act Believe me, i absolutely claim not to be superior on anyone, i have zero reason for that anyway but i tend to be realistic and realism is all they lack in my country
Maybe some other dutch ''watch idiots'' might join the conversation and agree/disagree with me here ROFL!

Maybe you should sell your Rolex/AP and move on since seeing that 2 brands on others bother you.

Well no, i absolutely love my Rolexes and as mentioned before, i have them purely for myself.. I have my own sense of passion with these watches and my own feeling(s) but i see it as a ''downside'' that literally everyone is rocking them on the Streets here...… I am sure you will understand the problem when you lived here, it is seriously different from what you expect
I absolutely think that Rolex makes the most beautifull most versatile and nice looking watches so on 1 side it would be ''normal'' that it is popular but the amount of popularity it is here right NOW is insane.. Really, insane………. I have Always been a bit ''anti-fashion'' type of guy..

Can you let me know the appropriate dress code to wear with my rolex? I missed it in the memo after my AD gave me the WIS pre-purchase movement test.

Wow, you sure can tell a lot by just looking at people...

No, but seriously, this is silly. You have no idea what someone’s motivation is for wearing a watch nor do you have any idea of their educational background or net worth by just looking at them. To think you can tell all that by just looking at someone tells me a lot about you.

And even if everything you assume about these people is true, who cares?!?! They aren’t hurting anyone. Let people live and judge less.
