I have my watch to get service. It is around 30 year plus, got it from my dad.
The watch service told me this is Buckley dial. I search and found many people talk about Buckley dial.

Dial named after collector/dealer John Buckley. He was active on Vintage Rolex Forum as a member few years back. I haven't been on there in quite a few years but if you search you will find him. Search John Buckley aka Tuscanyrose and you will read plenty I am sure!

PS What makes it different are the numbers on dial being painted versus applied.

Hi
Thank you for quick response. Were all roman numbers being painted by hand? I thought only the patina. Wow! Amazing.

Painted by hand? No. Directly painted on dial versus numbers applied to the dial? Yes.

I have the white version with black painted romans and black hands. I was told they was made for people that have problems to read the time with polished hands.

Hilarious. I always knew these as Buckley dials but never knew the backstory.

Buckley dial

Interesting back story.

Now I know who it was named after, but why was it named after him?

I didn’t knew that. But sounds great and is also a very Smart Idea.
Thanks for the info.

I believe he was a very strong proponent of the painted roman numeral dials of the Datejust and Day-Dates on the VRF. I understand these dials were not popular during the time they were made, so now that they are relatively rare and sought after, the collecting community decided to name these dials after him.
