For me it's the Yachtmaster series. They look great in pics, but when on the wrist, they just look so plain on me. Second are the Rose Gold Daytonas.

The Platona, like others have said, looks much better in the flesh. That weight adds to its appeal too.

Me too, saw a wrapped PP 5980 RG and was unimpressed, then one without and was like night and day.

So far, I'm 100% on deciding correctly whether I like it or not before seeing in the flesh.

Polar white Explorer II 42mm...great looking watch in photos but in person just didn't do it for me, so I flipped it for a BNLR.

Wow, that picture does make it look purplish...Mine looks royal blue. weird....

The few that spring to mind are off the list due to the proportions. Nothing wrong with them as such just they look huge in real life.

The Milgaus. All of the variants are absolutely stunning watch in photos. But with exception of the black one looking okkkkk they're all huge. I was expecting something a bit more subtle that would slide under a cuffed shirt better.

The blue YM. I don't know what it is but after seeing it in the flesh I was underwhelmed. I think the white/silver face smashes this one out the park.

The Monaco. This was one of my grails. It's such a stunning watch. One guy at my old work place used to have one and I would always admire it. I was in a position to buy one a few years back and tried it on loads at various dealers but couldn't get past the fact it looked like a small box strapped to my wrist.

DD President with Tri-dor bracelet. Looked so good in brochures. Not so much in person

The black Explorer 216570. Lusted after it in pictures, but deeply disappointed in the flesh: for me too many internal reflections & the hands didn't really stand out enough from the dial. The Polar was another story...

My eyes are getting a little bit older and it's harder to see small stuff so the larger hands were a real boon. In pictures the Explorer I was forgettable but in the flesh I LOVED it! Extraordinarily comfortable and flew far under the radar, but I could bare even see the hands so I had to pass.

For me it was the WG DD. Absolutely stunning in most photos but on the wrist it didn’t justify the MSRP.

I had seriously considered getting a Panerai Marina 1392. Looks very beautiful on pictures. Its reasonably sized at 42mm and my impression is I that can get them with very good discounts. But when I tried them on at an AD, I could not get myself to like how it looked on my wrist. I've long wanted to own a Panerai but it did not work out for me that time. Maybe in the future I'll give it another try, maybe another model.

White dials don't really do anything for me. In pictures with soft lighting I love it but in person I'll pass.

Hulk and BLNR for sure. Never gotten excited about either of these in-person, but they do look great in photos

Strangely enough and I realise some people may think I am crazy but it was was the Daytona 116500 for me - maybe it was the combination of the white dial and the overall 'shine', but when I got to see it for the first time (and only time so far) by an AD, I was a bit unsure about it. I stress that I was merely shown it without any option to buy it and I only handled it for a couple of minutes or so. I also did not get to see the black dial version. Would love to see one again to get a better look though this is highly unlikely and maybe just as well in light of all the drama and cost!

90's white Explorer 2. Looked at brochures and pics forever and went to the AD to buy and didnt love it. Walked out with a 16610 Sub. Recently my JC D-Blue, seemed small compared to the 45.5mm Omega PO XL I'd been wearing for a couple of years. My eyes have now adjusted so I'm good

I had the opposite, didn’t like the platona when it first came out and in the live pictures then when I saw it in the metal it all made sense haha.

Explorer looks much better in person. Kind of "meh" in pictures. Same with the Datejust. Daytona too. Beautiful in person. On the other hand I really liked the Skydweller in pictures but it didn't do anything for me in person.

I know I'll get some heat over this but I feel Tudors do not look as good in person (But look great in photos) and really suffer when sharing a display case with Rolex. I know the in-house movements are very good but there is something about them in person that lack a certain depth of... I'm not sure. At least compared to a Rolex.

For me, sd4000c and explorer 1. The matte black dial is so lifeless and faded in person, both watches were very underwhelming in person.

Absolutely. YM with the dark rhodium grey face. Gorgeous watch in pics. Big snooze in person.

But hey, we can't all like the same thing, and that's good.

For me, it's the 'Hulk.' Looks great on other people's wrists, too. Just not on mine. But that's okay.

Same here for Tudor. My problem is that I'm old enough to remember the versions from the 70's and 80's which had a Rolex case and ETA movement. Now, if they would just get rid of the snowflake hands....

Hulk, I was so excited when I got the call after a few weeks (year 2016), but then was shocked when I had it in my hands and on my wrist. I haven't given up completely on the idea of a green Rolex, hoping next generation of Hulk will be closer to what I like IRL (darker bezel and non sunburst dial).
