Has anyone had luck trading Jewelry for a watch?
I have had an engagement ring sitting in my safe for about 13 years now. Was worn for about 3 weeks.. Not one of my best decisions.. I figure the best place to ask was here. It is just sitting there doing nothing and figure I would much rather use the money towards a watch if possible. Now I know when people try to sell engagement rings online they might get a quarter of what they paid if they are lucky. I wonder if a good jeweler would offer up any more money in trade for a watch?

A good diamond should hold value, especially if you avoided paying retail.

Kinda my thought process too, I kinda have in my mind that I would not get near what I paid but also don't want to get screwed either.. I just look at this money sitting doing nothing and would much rather put it into a watch.. I honestly kinda forgot I had it until the other day.

Maybe you should keep the ring and find the love of your life instead of a watch.

Don't be.
On the other hand (pun not intended), nothing wrong with the love of your life being a watch. It goes wherever you want it to go, doesn't talk much, and doesn't put up a fit if you put your hands on another one. Or another one on your hand. Whatever

Now is as good a time as any to monetize it. If it was 1ct. or more - and top grade (or nearly so) then you should see a value rise. While retail pricing has doubled since 2003, you’ll be getting trade value close to what you paid.
That may sound low to you but the jeweler you deal with wants a profit when it sells later in his shop. Some ADs deal in preowned, others will work a consignment for you, but your problem will be finding the watch you want at an AD who makes those types of deals. There are a few trusted sellers here on TRF that will accept GIA graded 1ct. and up diamonds in trade for a watch they are selling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Get it appraised by GIA before you do anything.
With that paperwork you will get jerked around much less. |

i believe the average wholesale price for jewelry is less than 50% of retail, so you might be disappointed.
And yes, I have traded jewelry for watches several times. |
